I traded my friend for his S4 and he took my 335i for a week and after the initial eye candy phase of the B8 S4 wore out I was very disappointed and coulnt wait to get back into my F30. It just plain and simple drove better. THe Audi was a slug in the handling department. The electric steering was as bad as my 2013 ford focus work car. Maybe even wore. It just ruined the experience immediately for me.

Just compare the F/R weight distribution and you will know which one is the more desirable car.

Since the B8 platform's debut Audi has been more focused on weight distribution and weight loss. The B9 will be approximately 8% lighter than the previous model and early reports stated they were going for 50/50 but I believe it will be similar to the B8 of 58/42.

BMW really need to launch an M340i with bespoke body kit and tuned setup (similar to what they have done with the M135 and M235) especially now merc have the C450 AMG.
this.

I know BMW does offer M performance upgrade and with that fully packed i guess it could go against the likes of S-line models or AMG sport. But as a factory 335 or 340i goes, they are looked down so much compared to s4 and c450.
Look down by whom? Your neighbor?

Near 50/50 balance w/ Rear Wheel Bias xDrive is where it's at.

I will take the xDrive car over the Quattro car every time.

I expect most of the members on here to hate bc that's what they do in comparo's but there's no denying this one.
The only reply I have is the X drive system is rwd biased. I do not wand a fwd set up that originated from a Jetta.
There's nothing about X-Drive that is superior to Quattro. That was his point (and if you knew anything about Quattro, you'd know that it is not only RWD biased, but variable).

That "problem" is exactly why I've just ordered a 340i. It's anonymous, to people who aren't in the know it's just another 3 series, but it's fast, powerful and brutal!
Same here. I prefer an understated look. In fact, nothing looks more ridiculous to me than when I see grown men driving slammed cars on black wheels.

You have to buy the sport differential for this to happen.. and the S4 is always nose heavy because of the gearbox and differential set up. The engine always sits in front of the front axle.

The MLP, MLB and MLB2 chassis are not shared with any VW product (AFAIK). They are Audi, Porsche and Bentley exclusive. MQB is Audi, SEAT, Skoda and VW.

Good god what is that awful suitcase shifter in the Audi? Why is that thing so enormous? It looks like the throttle in the crawlers from Armageddon.

Design comparisons are subjective. If a guy wants an all wheel drive car, I don't see how the Audi doesn't end up being the better choice. Performance suspension, available LSD, ride height LOWER than the normal A4 variant...Audi simply keeps the perspective that AWD and high performance can live together.

I have not yet driven an LCI xDrive 340, though it would have to be a lot better than the pre-LCI version to change my mind.

Bummer about the MT, though.

Agree on all counts!

p.s. I also much prefer the Audi interior (especially the sweet high-res TFT instrument cluster), though admittedly it's brand new compared to the five year old F30.

the best thing about audi cars are the ability to tune it more easily than bmws. cant wai till APR get their hands on it. bmw tunes are mainly all piggybacks because the bosche ecu is to hard to crack. audi/vw have easier direct port ecu flash tuning. as for styling both are unique to their own and very elegant.

why did they even bother with one? if only automatic is available wouldn't a push button system be easier and have cleaner design?

Please explain why you would choose xDrive over Quattro. (Not sure if you are aware but after 2005.5 TorSen based Quattro systems are 40/60 split and 2008+ vehicles (starting with B8) are near 50/50. if your choice is because of design then that is always subjective to the individual... "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." however if you're talking about technical specs your points above are in line with the B8+ vehicles.

I have owned more than my fair share of Audi vehicles and I abandoned the brand because they refuse to offer what I (along with a few others) want... High performance wagons or even wagons for that matter. Audi decided that the Avant is going to be discontinued for NAR and only the Allroad will be offered. A watered down, plain jane, bland version of the A4 Avant thrown on stilts. Audi offers nothing of interest (to me) outside of the RS7 and the coming the S5 Sportback.

that has always been Audi's thing... Conservative styling. Understated. "Sleeper"
when the b5 s4 debuted there were very few attributes that separated it from the b5 a4 but when one zipped past you with all it's bi-turbo goodness you knew exactly what it is... same with the d2/d3 s8 and the c5 rs6.

Isn't the s4 supposed to be on par with the "m"category? Or is that only how it was in the past. I'm assuming the rs4 is on the same level with our current m3. Sorry haven't looked too much into Audi lately so correct me if I'm wrong please
