Best cargo restraints

I am trying to figure out the best way to restrain item in the cargo area. When my wife and I shop, we bring a cooler and baskets that slide around.

A cargo net ties down too low to cover these items. A cargo mat will offer more friction to help these items from sliding around but may not be enough.

What are others doing?

Help

I use the rubber cargo mat. It is pretty grippy and offers good traction with “ribs” to help keep things in place. Another idea would be to use the grocery bag holders and run a bungee across as a partition.

Bungie cords...various length sizes in a canister. Target or Walmart has them. I use it in the sedan.

I checked the BMW website for accessories...not much there

In another car I used to own I bought custom made tie downs from a small company in Oregon.

Address: 2750 Industrial Ave,
Hubbard, OR 97032
Hours: Open ⋅ Closes 4PM
Phone: (877) 360-5528

https://customtiedowns.com

They will custom make lengths and colors and styles of straps.

What I did was was loop two of them through the floor D clamps and synch them when I needed them. Worked fine. Heavy duty.

This is the solution for us I had posted some time ago, WallyF, and it is working perfectly so far. We haven't come across anything yet that these side tie-down points and the cords can't handle. http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1469244

Missing left side hock

BMW in their cost cutting measure remove the bag hanging hook from the left side on my X3. There is one on the right. If they had left the left hook, I would tie a boogie cord across. THANKS BMW!

I may order a hook for the left side and cut a place to mount it on the left panel.

I like the idea of a cargo floor mat. Weathertech is coming out with one that takes their storage blocks. Hope it is soon.

Thanks for everyone’s input.

Mine has bag hooks on both sides.
Mine also has interior wall hooks on both sides (30i xDrive). There's also an elastic strap on the lower left side, though I haven't yet found a good use for it

Mine has a hook only on the right side only as well.

I have the G01 (30i xDrive) with a spare tire which has a slightly different boot area. This may be the reason for only one.

Is your mat the BMW mat sold as an accessory or do you have an after market?

I have the BMW X3 cargo luggage mat. I got the dealer to throw in the all-season mats but forgot to ask for the cargo mat.

It's not bad and gets you that shiny X3 logo if that's what you like. Also seems like a better quality and fit than some of the aftermarket ones.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it covers the railing system on the side so you can't use it. I don't use it anyway but it seems like BMW should have thought of this detail if they gonna charge $180 for it.

Here's another thread with pics that someone else posted on it.

I have the oem cargo mat. You can find it a lot cheaper than it lists for.

Cargo net works fine

Got the BMW cargo net from getBMWparts.com last week. I was able to hook it to the top seat back hooks and the hooks by the tailgate. It worked fine for our big cooler and travel baskets.

I will still get a pocket holder(hook) and mount it on the left side panel. This will allow me to use a bongie cord if I want.

I will also see what the Weathertech mat looks like when available..
