First Service - options

Hi there,

Just booked my car in for it's first oil service.

The advisor said that BMW recommend that a maintenance check is carried out which checks brake pads, tyres, fluid levels, steering etc. and that it was not included as part of the service inclusive package!

Cost is £39 !! Did not go with it but it would be interesting to see if anyone else has been offered this - seems poor that you have to pay for something that BMW recommend but do not include as part of the service cost!!

that's pretty crap. I didn't go for the service pack as it didn't include the MOT either.

I'd forget the £39, the car will alert you to pad wear and fluid levels and you can check the tyres!

When I had my oil change service in January, I was advised on brake pad thickness and tyre tread depth as part of the service and wasn't charged as I have service inclusive, so this does sound like the dealer is trying it on IMO. Pretty sure my washer fluid was topped up also.

BMW quote this on their website:

a) BMW Service Inclusive covers the cost of parts, labour and fluids for the following service items: engine oil service, engine oil top-up, brake fluid (at 3rd year only), vehicle check, air filter, micro filter, fuel filter (diesel models only) and spark plugs. These items are covered from the date of first registration for a period of 5 years or 50,000 miles (whichever occurs sooner).

But what is vehicle check?

Is the vehicle check not the 3 year, effectively MOT check (but not an MOT if you get what I mean)?

I find it amazing that they are trying to charge to check basic things that should be part of any standard service!!

Usually a garage is only too keen to check things like tyres and brakes for "free" as it means they can charge for these if they need replacing.

Isn't that the point of these kinds of checks, to generate themselves more work? So not including it in the service inclusive is doing themselves out of work.
