He advertises lifetime NBT map codes which do not exist - they only work for CIC. He also does not have the 2014-1 maps yet. |

People who are interested, PM me for a link to download the maps.
I should be able to get someone to provide the FSC codes by the end of the weekend. |

Does anyone know, who old the car is before it starts requesting the FSC code?

Right, So I've downloaded the map data, put the USB stick into the car and got the following. It appears that its prompting for a code, so it looks like my "free" time is up and I'll have to purchase a code.
Car was built around mid October.

It's no big problem really as I suppose a code is what £20-£30? But feel a bit miffed as I could have upgraded the maps for free if I'd have known! Oh well.

My car was built 17/12/13. What map version will it likely have?

How much is updated in the latest maps update?
Is it worth waiting for the next update and saving the cash? Also can anyone generate the codes for free and is there any risk in handing over the VIN number? (i.e criminal use etc) |

You'd hope, the 2014 maps.... But a bet it won't - based on what people have said on here.

If your car was built 17/12...then you should have the 2014-1 maps.
If you don't, you have a very very good reason to go to the dealer and ask them to request a free update from BMW seeing as the European 2014-1 maps were released several weeks earlier. |

$40 with the guy I use.
I suppose the main reason to update is if a road you use regularly is out of date or doesn't exist. The BMW maps do take a long long time to be updated to reflect new roads etc. There isn't any kind of change log either so you don't know if there are any other updates. The BMW short code system for map updates was broken a number of years ago. People have been selling them all this time, but more people now have access to the tools that allow you to generate the code. There is no risk in giving over your VIN - basically, anyone who is able to generate a code needs an encrypted file from your car...if they don't have access to your car, they download it from BMW's ASAP (after service portal). I think they must have a contact at a dealership who has given them a login for access to this portal as it's not normally something Joe Bloggs can access. |

I have tried the 2014-1 maps on my car, built in September, the car asked for the code, I entered the code that was supplied when I collected the car and this worked |
