Unhappy It had to happen .......

Kerbed my front offside 400M alloy. Kerb was jutting out. Did not see it. Really annoyed with myself. Only the second wheel in 40 years of driving. Got wheel Insurance with ALA. Will call them tomorrow or I might just give it to BMW for a fix. Had a premonition that this was going to happen. To add to all this, my new laptop went faulty after one day! Two things, one more to go!

Thanks for the sympathy.
Who says retirement is not busy!
Tomorrow is a busy day, car and PC. Car the easy one. PC - the PITA.
Re: the car, I went for dinner with my ex and that's when it happened. At least she's got two kerbed wheels on her F30!

I took out gap and alloy wheel cover with ALA and recently had to put a claim in as my wife unfortunately curbed two of the wheels on our car (she was gutted)

In my experience they were brilliant. Within 24 hour of me lodging the claim and sending some pictures, a technician from a repair company was in touch to book me in to get them fixed.

Repair was completed at home a few days later and despite the damage being quite bad on the front wheel he did an absolutely brilliant job. He really took his time over it and I have to say I was very impressed.

If you have the cover mate I would definitely use it rather than taking the car into the dealer.

I have cover with them, but I am so busy at present despite being retired, I am giving my car to BMW. Call me stupid but I just don't have much time and patience at present. It will cost me £85.
Maybe I will change my mind tonight.

£170 I think for 3 years and 9 claims! Not bad value!

ALA GAP AND ALLOY WHEEL COVER

Am I eligible for cover?

Eligibility for cover with a Alloy Wheel Insurance Policy is shown below:

Cover available for cars, light vans and motorcycles
Available for qualifying vehicles up to 7 years of age at the start of the policy
Maximum permitted mileage of 70,000 at the start of the policy
Cover must be purchased in conjunction with an ALA GAP Insurance policy.
Qualifying vehicles must be listed in Glass’s Guide
Your vehicle must have been bought from an authorised dealer
Cover restricted to the original manufacturer specification of alloy wheel for your car, excluding diamond (laser) cut rims, split rim construction, or with polished or chrome effect finishes.

Does this mean that it doesnt cover the 403s.

RAC tyre and alloy insurance offered by BMW does cover diamond cut - I asked them specifically about it. However it costs £449 ( or £549) for 3 years. quite a lot....

Whilst I have no doubt the BMW cover is probably very good, I found them to be very expensive in comparison to other 3rd party providers.

I was able to get both gap and alloy insurance for less than what they wanted for gap only. I also got 10% cash back for linking to the policy provider via quidco. Small beans maybe but effectively dropped the cost by a further £30.

I have 18s rather than the diamond cut 19s so acknowledge that you have to be careful that the policy you choose does actually cover you.

Decided to go with ALA Insurance.

They use a company called Revive. Spoke to the Tech this morning who covers my area. Australian and very helpful. It is a smart fix so no need to paint the whole wheel. Work will be done with wheel in situ. Booked for Friday at 1pm. All very efficient and I have saved £85 + VAT (still good value IMO) which would be what BMW would have charged.

Am I not a clever boy then, eh?!
Wait until you kerb your diamond cut 403Ms. I can just imagine how distraught you will be.
And, it will happen just as night turns to day.
I'll lend you a shoulder to cry on. Am I not so very nice?

Yes, you can have both together or just either tyres or wheels.
