Digital sport gauges

Where does the car get the info for these? I know they aren't accurate by any means but just curious if they are using info from a gyro or accelerometer or if it is just computer wizardry. Anybody know?

Likely the same signal just being converted digitally.

Signal from what? I'm talking about the displays of HP and TQ on the digital gauges on center screen

I'm guessing throttle mapping.

Modern maps work on torque requests, so it's probably modeled after that. HP is a function of torque and revs.

Torque request mapping, most likely.
It is a mapping based on what the expected output of the engine is. It is not live data, which is why it is not accurate, but it is indicative and useful as such.

I'd be curious to hear what people use the display for. I always figured they were an approximation based on data from the ECU and not true values.

I've only put them on the display a few times when I was going to drive the car hard. I thought it would be entertaining to see what kind of numbers they would display under various conditions. However, I never actually looked at them because I was keeping my eyes on the road/course and by the time it was safe to look at them, there wasn't anything interesting to see.

Rarely used. However quite useful during dynamic driving in manual gearbox mode. Typically mountain/curvy roads, requiring frequent changes of gears.

Also fun to watch when my girlfriend drives

I've only put the gauges on when I was doing some SAFELY aggressive driving and recording the drive from the interior with a go pro. Its fun to see the gauges hit these absurdly inaccurate numbers... I pretend they are legit and feel like a badass

Hehe

The numbers are by far not that inaccurate (on a stock car).....
