Injen intake sounds

Hey guys,

I just took ownership of my F30 328i coming from an E90 and was just considering options to alter the sound of the engine under acceleration. I was looking at the Injen intake and was just wondering on the kind of sound it emits under mid to high accelerations, is there some bass to to it or is it throaty? Also does the turbo whoosh sound get annoying when you are just cruising ? I've seen the YouTube vids however it's hard to get a clear idea. Cheers guys

Personally owning one, I love it. If you are on a stock exhaust you aren't going to notice much difference in terms of sound. Although you do hear it sucking in a lot more ai under medium throttle. The blow out valve "swoosh" doesn't get annoying at all, practically can't hear it at all with the radio on. You only hear it when it's dead silent in the cabin, it's pretty noticeable to bystanders though.

Injen is the most popular intake choice for these cars, i think it sounds great

I've got the Injen + muffler delete. It's kind of really awesome if you already know it's just for sound gains.

Cheers for all the constructive comments guys. Hmm i guess the only way to achieve the growl is to pair it with an aftermarket exhaust. Going by the youtube vids and the comments, have to admit that the suction sound is quite sweet too

The 328 exhaust are way too quiet. So yes, you need an aftermarket exhaust. And depending on how loud you want it to growl, there's a lot of options.

As others have said, you don't hear it at all if you're jamming to the radio. In dead silence, you do hear the intake suck in air and blow off on Sport mode or hard acceleration in Drive mode. For me I have no reason for power or hard acceleration in the city & dense suburban driving so in Eco mode you don't hear the engine making that sound inside the car. Overall unless you love driving with no music, the intake makes hardly a difference of sound or annoyance in-cabin. Bystanders outside though... hear that baby all the time.

Finally got round to getting the Injen intake and I must say its been an absolute delight. The suction noises sound so badass without being too overbearing and not sure if it's placebo but definitely feel a slight increase in power. Windows up and cruising, sounds really tame, exactly what I wanted. To those considering, I would say go for it!

I have to AFE momentum, if it wasn't for the quick spool and mid range torque I would run the stock airbox with a drop in.

The way the stock airbox is design with the resonator gives it a induction growl that sounds NA and deep. I find intakes in the N20 doesn't give the tradition induction growl. More wooshes and whistle.

Can you post a vid of the muffler delete? Looking to possibly go it to my car. Really wish I could hear one in person

i personally own the injen intake and m sport exhaust. i put on the exhaust first then the intake but i can tell you that it sounds great. when your driving normal and you have light music on cant hear it at all. put ur car in sport and gun it you just hear it sucking in air. let off the gas and swooooooooooshhhhhhhh. every time i hear it it makes me smile. but you need a exhaust to complement the intake.

Do wonder what exactly are the benefits of using aluminum vs stock plastic as it does run hotter and its heavier too; unless of course those differences are insignificant ..

I dont believe i have seen any independent dynos for the intake on its own

But whether they are true or not, the gains are very negligible.
Get the intake for the sound not performance.
If you want performance get a JB4 / downpipe / intercooler

Dynos coming up...

Ordered my Injen intake from Mike and will be scheduling a dyno run to finally answer the question of whether or not the Injen intake actually makes anything other than neat sounds.

I have two sets of dyno numbers already on my car, using the same dyno.

We shall see what the data says.

Really interested in seeing the dyno results. Love the intake sound but it would be nice to see if there is any merit to the hp claims.

I don't think anyone would spend $150+ on dyno pulls just for an intake.
