About to go for N55 JB4.

My car is 2013 f30 Activehybrid 3, and email conversation has been going on at **********.

Could you guys give me come advice before I pull the trigger? Any advice from who have bad or good JB4 experience will be appreciated.

I have read many problematic situation after they install JB4, but sales guy said majority of problematic situation are caused by improper installation.

So, I want let professional do the job. Do you guys know any shop that can install JB4 in Seattle area?

Got a bms stage 1 for my 2013 AH3 for almost a year now. So far no problems and happy with it. I know it's not jb4 but just to give you an idea.

Cool!
How do you like so far?
Do you think it's worth it?

I kinda want to hear before and after in each mode. (Eco pro, comfort, sport, sport+)

I like it a lot. The wife liked it too. you really feel the difference with the tune. The car pulls harder with the tune on every modes except I think for eco mode, but I didn't really use eco before the tune so not sure. You'll definitely like the sport mode. I decided to tune the car because I missed the acceleration I get from my old n54 335i with jb4 with meth. With the stage 1, im satisfied on how car accelerates. Only reason I didn't go with jb4 this time is because of the wire taps but I used jb4 for almost 5 years on my 2008 335i and had no problems with it.

aftermarket DP that has a high-flow catalyst should work; without the catalyst, the O2 sensors will throw a CEL..............nic epost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you feel the difference between your previous JB4 and current stage 1? Which one do you like more? Some said JB4 is much smoother, is it true in your thought?

I cant really compare the two because they are two different engines. My old car was with meth, dp, intake and on occasion e85. the power difference is very different. Personally I think that the n55 engines are smooth even with stage 1. The n54 with jb4 and all that mod was not the smoothest but you feel that power and to be honest I kinda like the not so smooth one. But I can only speak for stage 1 since that is what I have now for the ah3, so in my opinion I like it for what it is right now. You will definitely feel the difference but do not expect too much with just stage 1.

Thanks so much.
I will go for stage 1, since I probably not doing further mods and hard to get 93 octane gas in my area.

No problem. You are right, if you are not planning to do any other mods for the car then stage 1 is perfect. if you are planning to go for more then jb4 is the way to go. I kinda want to mod this car some more but im scared of this hybrid thing so I stopped with stage 1. My next one will be just suspension mod to get the floatiness feeling out with maybe dinan spring.

Nice. This AH3 has pretty heavy body roll.
I asked about spring mods to Dinan dealer, and they said there is no sprint for AH3 from Dinan, since it is heavier than normal 335i.

I know different dealer has different policy, but that's what I heard. Have you asked about it? Since I am thinking about it as well.

I think it'll be fine with the 335i dinan springs. Its probably just like a 335i with two passengers in it. I'll be buying the springs online and install them myself with a friend. I dont really care about ride height but that body roll is getting old. Haven't verified it yet but I have a feeling that maybe ah3 have the same springs as a 335i?

Imho, pull the trigger.

I had the JB Stage 1 for my N55 335 steptronic for about a month. I just recently switched to the JB4 over the past couple days. Tbh, I should've made the jump to JB4 initially, instead of the JB Stage 1, since I plan on doing catless downpipe, FMIC, meth, e85.

I've ran Map 1 on the JB4 (which seems to me to pull harder than my JB Stage 1, also it feels smoother throughout the powerband, no hiccups). I've also ran Map 5, did a couple 3rd gear runs during to help adaptation of the JB4, then got on it WOT. All I can say for the Map 5 Auto is WOW. Hijacked the fuel gauge temporarily to get a rough estimate of boost, which was spiking at a hair over 15lbs, settling around 14/13ish by redline. All I have is a ER charge pipe and a K&N drop in filter.

The JB4 install took me about 70 minutes, but I was having a beer and taking it easy, taking my time throughout. My advice is if you decide to install it yourself, just take your time and check and double check connections, wires, etc. It's really not all that difficult.

Overall i'm thoroughly impressed with the JB4. Not one issue and it pulls verrry nicely. That's my experience with it, so take it as you will.

JB4

What all needs to be done when installing the jb4? I've heard it's fairly simple?

After installation there's no tuning or anything that needs to be done. It's just a plug it in and then drive off??

Thanks

I used to have one on my AH3, installed it myself and it's really not difficult.

If running map1/2/5 - then yes (with a little bit of luck)

The JB4 has a few built in maps.. MAp1 will be default. So when you install it will be on map1 which is perfect if you don't have any supporting mods..

Ok thanks that clears it up. I have a Dinan intake that's about it. Just looking to get a few more hsp. Being over 350 hsp would be nice.
