onboard computer question
Hello,
I purchased a certified pre-owned 2015 428ix coupe from a reputable dealer last January. When the car was presented to me after the sale was complete, the check engine light was on. They told me they were having some trouble with it, that it was not anything serious, and to bring it back at my convenience and they would fix it. Approx 30 days later, the light went off on its own. Strangely enough, I am not pleased the light went off on its own. I want to know why the light was on and ensure it's dealt with while I'm still under warranty. Even though this car came from a reputable dealer, I still do not trust car dealerships. Can the error code history be retrieved from the computer if I were to take it to a local private BMW mechanic? What is required for me to access the onboard computer? I presume a laptop, software and a cable of some sort. Is this something that is feasible? Or is the software and/or interface required proprietary and not available? Thank you. |

Get a Foxwell NT510 or the functionally identical Schwaben from ECS, whichever is on sale for the best price.

Might be an evap pressure switch fault or thermostat fault. Those two are the usual suspects and check engine light will turn off if it's done a couple of drive cycles and hasn't seen the fault present.
