Seems I was lucky in the beginning and was one of the first to have the 2019-1 release to my car. However, still no sign of the 2019-2 release for me.

I suppose this isn’t a major problem as a lot of the new roads should be updated, but there’s quite a few new roads around me and diving through a ploughed field at 70mph does look a little silly

In the BMW-Connecteddrive website scroll down to the Map update tile.
Choose the windows or Mac option.
This should start an .exe download, once completed, click and this should open up the BMW DOWNLOAD MANAGER.
From here you will need to download it and then copy it onto a memory stick (Min 64GB).
Once completed, the site will send you an installation code and the memory stick including the files will need to be put into the USB input (under the armrest).

*Edit I would assume it to be the same process in Brazil

I've checked my nav today and it says last updated 2013-2, its an October 2013 car.

Should it of had free of charge map updates for a number of years, or is it chargeable every time?

The subscription you need to purchase is the USB Map Updates for £49.
In regards to you not being able to update the maps past 2018-1 is because that there is currently no new update as you vehicle comes with the Entry Nav Headunit. We have been advised that the next update will be released June 2019."

I won't be buying.

I am just trying to understand where my car sits in the map updates issue.
I bought a 2013 F31 and the system is saying Road Map Europe Next 2013-2.
Does this mean its never been updated and what would be the best steps for me getting it updated if I can?

the goal post has moved again then! I emailed them in March, got told the new maps will be released between now and April!

mine is expired now and won't be renewing either

Correct, it has not been updated.

Best bet is to goto https://www.bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk plug in you VIN details and check the USB Map Update tile. It will advise you of the costs (only a 12 month package is available).

Alternatively, you go down the route of downloading your map update from a torrent site, but can't help you with this.

Just put in my Vin and nothing is available apart from CONNECTED PACKAGE PLUS for £99 a year as i cant get USB Map update on its own. Ummmm
Not really sure about all the other stuff on that package.

Not really sure about all the other stuff on that package.

At least that includes Real Time Traffic Information and some other things, but only you can say if you feel the £99 PA is worth it. Personally, I think that's reasonable and you should get 2 to 3 map updates over the course of a year.

As I updated to 2018-1 in May 18, that will take it to over a year by the time the update is released. I wonder if they’re breaching any terms with it being over a year?

Most connected drive options are a rip off & are shit, most of mine have run out & will only buy map updates when I feel I need to.

ps: They need to concentrate on the music apps working as they should.

I’ve been stuck on 2018-1 so far. I’ve just logged in and it’s just offered me 2019-2 with a choice of Europe east or west. I went for west, not sure why they split it? The file is only 14gb too, which seems small?
It looks like us bog standard folk are jumping 2019-1, though that’ll be it until 2020-1 now.

Amazingly, and at long last, the Download Manager software now recognises a USB stick in MacOS without giving an error. The software automatically updates itself on launch.
