Passenger door leak help
So I have read lots of threads about this, bad vapor barrier seal, clogged door drains, missing O rings on white door panel clips, leaking hinge bolt seal and on and on and on.
Here is my situation.......the door seal around the door has water in it and there is moisture on the bottom of the door. I don’t see water anywhere else not even inside the door. I am going to replace the seal around the door. It’s attached to the door like tape. Anyone else have an option on this? Could it be the seal on the car body? I can squeeze the seal and water will come out of the whole. I checked around the seal and it’s just the bottom have that seams to have any type of water or moisture. |

You can repair a ripped vapor barrier with gorilla tape. Not sure they use the same stuff now, but 3M window seal roll (not caulk) is the butyl tape, aka dumdum is great for attaching the vapor barrier--used it in the e46. You can get it at an auto body supply store. Also, maybe get some extra door clips to save yourself aggravation...they break easily.

If that's a permanent adhesive sealer, I'd try the windowweld roll...you can remove the vapor barrier with it for when you need to replace your regulator.

Try to get butyl based material to seal it, either as a "cord" or a tube. I have used Sika Lastomer 710 with good results. Butyl is very durable in this scenario and the vapor barrier can still be detached without breaking it if needed.

Hi Obert, Before the fix, did you see any liquid/leaks in the cabin? I've just experienced a massive leak into my 420D coupe and I want to discount the vapour seal and Door seal as the root cause.

Yes I did. It was leaking on the inside by the front part of the door and down into the passenger floor and mat.

Hallo Obert,
There is no water coming in my cabin. The water stays on the right side of rubber sill. Outside the car. I thougt, looking at your photos, that the water stayed in the sill as well. As in my car. But you had water also in the cabin. I really dont know where my car is "leaking" on the door-plates (thats where the M-sport badge is) But I think that your use to be problem is not the same as mine. I am gonna look further. Thanks |

It is normal to have water on the bottom of the door. There are drain holes there. My problem was the vapor barrier not sealing and it allowed water to leak into my car. I would say if no water is getting into your car then what your seeing is normal. I still see water on the bottom of my door after a car wash.

When the weather is oke, than there is no water on doorplates, or bottom door. It is only a weird look, when there is water between the outer en inner sill.
Looks like there is a tiny hole somewhere in the outer sill, where the water is leaking in. Perhaps your right, and i should not worry. |
