I have been quoted £405 for new front pads by BMW and £355 by Halfords. What concerns me is comments above about the discs needing replacing, surely not with less than 40k on the clock?

The other issue on the front brakes is the squeak and squeal just as it comes to a standstill or sitting in traffic with the brake pedal slightly pressed to creep, it sounds like an old bus. Any clues what causes this ? Is this a warranty fix ? Its going in next month for company paid brake oil change, MOT and have asked them to investigate anyway.
£400 for pads! That’s absolutely mental! You can buy oem quality Pagid pads for £40 and fit them yourself in about 30 minutes!

I was planning on taking my discs off and skimming them, but only if there is over 40% of wear left on. My car has done 40K now.
I am hoping to just pay for a set of pads, but not BMW so cost will be about £200 total
About 25k, but I am fairly hard on my brakes! Shouldn’t matter what mileage you’ve done, they should last however long it takes you to go through 2 sets of pads. Don’t worry too much about the 28.4mm figure imo, it is likely a very over cautious figure.

Nothing at all, they just know they can screw people over when they replace their standard discs!

Stupid prices from the dealer for OEM pads !

A full set of Pagid RS4-2 front pads for my Stoptech BBK are £300.

Has any one looked into the brake for life offer from Llyod Bmw? It was advertised back in May so may not be on offer now. My 335d has just flashed up with 5k to go. I plan on keeping my car for a long time providing it doesn't burst into flames so might be worth it. I have the m sport brakes and the car has only managed 22k before this warning come on. The advert said from £149.

Mintex MDB3764 pads have worked well for my 2015 435d with M Sport (Brembo four pot) blue calipers over 370mm discs.

Bought the pads for ~£35 delivered off eBay and, as BMW suggest renewal after four year, some replacement pins and spring retaining clips for another £10 or so.

So far I can't fault the braking, it's more responsive to the initial pedal press than what I would have to believe were the original pads that they replaced. I found the originals had a 'soft' response, that didn't inspire confidence, even with 370mm discs and four pot calipers, most odd.
For a balanced review there has been a slight downside of more dust, and the odd squeal, mainly just after washing the car.

So my 340i is showing low front pad, and confirmed with visual inspection.
Looking to also replace discs at the same time.

Any recommendation for front discs and pads? (M Performance brakes)

I will be doing mine soon. I have the same as you. I am fitting EBC yellow pads and will only change the discs if there is less than 30% thickness left on. If I was to change them I would go for plain discs as the slotted/drilled ones offer no advantage on the road other than looks.
I am thinking about upgrading the brake lines to.

Looking like the Zimmermann 2 piece discs on Autodoc are the best and most cost effective option. (around £140 per disc).
I'd also most likely just go with BMW pads. I've never had an issue with them and they are far cheaper than any alternative. (Around £70)

I bought these.....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-O...item51febc1add

Very good & paired with Pagid pads
they are 2 piece and coated & that price is for a pair. They also come from a UK supplier unlike Autodoc who are in Germany.

Guess that is solid discs and not the 2 piece riveted?
BMW OEM are actually 2 piece, using an aluminium bell riveted to the steel disc.

The man did say 2 piece.... ^^^

My Textar are exactly as OEM riveted aluminium bell to the steel disc (although in the pic it doesn't show that)

Think I'll possibly need disks for the next MOT, not looking forward to the cost!
