Just thought I'd send an update on what happened with my car for those curious. Despite trying all the suggestions here I was not able to get readiness on the 4 year old VRSF catted DP. Driving a certain way, flashing stock map, disabling DTC codes... none of it helped.

I ended up switching out to the EPA compliant AA catted DP and the car went ready on all tests within 125 miles even with a custom tune installed. I also discovered that I had an L spacer installed that I had forgotten about so I ended up removing it. For me, the lesson learned here is pay extra and get the AA DP for any future BMW cars.

Thanks for everyone's help with this over the past months.

X2 with the AA Downpipe. I just passed emissions with said DP.

When I need my next inspection(summer) I’ll make a video on it, both me and my brother(his 328i) have passed emissions for the past two years in Ny. Both cars are catless with cts Downpipes. I’ll do a step by step and record each one. This process will work in any state that allows one monitor to be not ready to still pass.

Smile One confirmed smog test passed with this on B58

I personally abide by all laws, rules and regulations.

While this might not work for all. Those living in states that allow for 1 "not ready" sensor, it should.

Unnamed person has a 340i with a B58, catless DP and BM3 tune. To pass IL emissions, person flashed the stock tune and left all settings at OEM, then in the DTC Deactivation area, entered the codes as pictured. Performed a drive cycle on the way to work and then again on the way to the emissions station.
ODBII Scan tool was used prior to testing to confirm system was ready as it was gonna get.
This resulted in a PASS with no CEL or codes thrown.

Hope this helps some people that don't want to crawl under their car to reinstall their OEM DP just for emissions.
I also have a friend with a B58 that has a high-flow CAT (CTS Turbo) and BM3 tune. They used the above procedure in the screenshot along with the stock bootmod3 tune to successfully pass the smog check and inspection in PA. They wanted me to relay that they are especially appreciative of all the smart people that helped them.

I of course have a completely street legal car and follow every letter of the law, all rules, and regulations.

Also for those that need the abbreviated drive test for smog readiness, (this only took 27 miles of driving to repeat 2 times), this procedure works well, but needs to be done at a time of low traffic for the deceleration steps from 55-20mph. https://www.instructables.com/How-to...or-Smog-Check/

Cheers

I crashed my car but yea ill dm you, it worked on a stage 2 catless 328i and my old stage 2+ 435i. Within a month or two im either getting a 440i or a m550i so im going to be able to test it on other cars. And ill post a step by step when I get a new car in this forum.

Yeah if you can I’d appreciate it. My inspection was due last month, and i just stumbled on this forum, i tried to use those dtc deactivation codes, however each one starting in P would be an “invalid code” once i added a 0 at the end of the code it would appear, however I don’t know if that’s going to work or not. Example of what I’m talking about code P0173 was invalid but code P01730 was valid

You need to do it on a laptop. For the shorter codes. But dont update the map on your phone because it will remove that code.

So turns out BM3 did happen to remove those codes from being applied, possibly due to legality reasons. I ended up having someone in NY just force readiness for 200$ and passed same day.

Is this confirmed that you can no longer do this? I was considering switching from MHD specifically for this.

I thought that I was SOL as well. However, after emailing BM3 and not getting much help, I stumbled across the website https://bmwfault.codes/ that converts the old school P-codes to HEX then I did some other shit I can't recall to arrive at the following.....

Switch to bone stock map then enter these codes:
180001
180101
118001
118401
118002
118402
12AF20

I drove about 100 miles over a few days and then checked the readiness and was good to go.

I used this method back in June 2024 to pass Illinois emissions

Doing this set all monitors to ready? I’m seriously considering switching from MHD over just this.

No, not all, O2 sensor still read "NOT READY" However for IL, they allow 1 not ready sensor. All others were good.

I'm not familiar with Rhode Island's emissions criteria.

Isn’t this what the OTS tunes do already, keep o2 in not ready state?

I think that they put a lot of sensors in "not ready" depending on your OTS settings. For instance, when you select cat heating off and CEL suppression. There are more.

Next time I go for emissions I'm going to enable cat heating and deselect CEL suppression and enter the codes that I did with the stock map and see if I can pass. I'm suspecting I can.

Do you know what RI inspection standards are? Have you tried what I did and then scanned with a ODBII module and app?

Yeah currently I can pass easily with MHD in RI. RI allows one not ready, and with MHD stage 2+ that is the cat. I am more interested in forcing monitors to ready state than I am in keeping them not ready TBH. It has been possible for many other platforms, and I've seen only one or two posts suggesting its possible with BM3 on B58, but from what I can gather without having a license to test it myself, they blocked the easy way to do it.

Gotcha, I misunderstood what you were asking.
I'm not aware of a way to force to "ready."

Hoping to get some help here guys.
BM3 Stage 2 and I can't pass GA inspection because I have 2 NOT READY. CAT and O2 of course. Georgia allows for one so, if someone could point in me the direction of a walk around it would be GREATLY appreciated. Feel free to DM if you aren't comfortable sharing on thread. Thanks in advance.

Do you have Catalytic Heating(Cold Start) set to OFF? That will prevent cat heating from going to ready. Switch to OEM.

And you have it set to stock tune and you've have done a drive cycle since last clearing code?
I would remove all the DTC deactivation codes and see which codes you get. Maybe a real code is causing the "not ready".
Thinking something like the O2 sensors thermocouple might be bad

I dont flash and/or reflash much. So, I'm pretty sure I was running Stage 2 93AGG OTS mapping when I passed last year. Which is why I'm puzzled as to why I failed this year. I did have some inactive codes and so I reflashed the same ots map a couple days before I went for the inspection.
Maybe I'm not completing a "drive cycle" long enough...idk

To answer your question, I got frustrated and went back to the Stage 2 OTS map after driving for almost a week on Stock and not getting readiness to appear. ..but now I'm thinking the same thing applies...maybe I'm not driving long enough or in the drive cycle breakdown as good as I thought I was.
