*** bootmod3 - MaxCool Mode + N55 Startup Roar - New Features ***
Announcing a couple of new bootmod3 features just released
![]() First one is ‘MaxCool mode’ - this will reduce your water coolant targets by 10 degrees Celsius and applies to ALL engines and software (ROM) versions! Moreover, for the B series engines this enables the intercooler pump to be active at all times to lower intake air temperatures! We also added GTS startup roar for the N55 EWG and PWG172X! Use the standard ‘config’ menu on each map to toggle these features on any map including custom, stock and OTS. ![]() ![]()

as i understand this lowers the coolant target, by doing so will this not shorten the life span of the pump, as it needs to work harder or longer to maintain a lower target?

For sure. Any device that has to work longer than originally intended will shorten the lifespan of it.

Does it really increase the coolant pump duty cycle or just adjust temp target and open the thermostat a bit.

Having said that, running MHD's performance cooling (the middle option, not max cooling in "track" setting), i have noticed that the main electric fan seems to run more often. If the water pump operation is not changed and the coolant target is lowered, the only other means to obtain that is to run the radiator fan more (assuming you need it and airflow while driving is not sufficient in itself) |

Been running "Max Cool Mode" for a few days now and whatever the logic behind this feature it definitely works. My car always stays put at the middle mark, just a bit below but with this feature enabled my indicator stays down about 10 degrees cooler.

I agree and adjusting the thermostat to maintain the operating set temp would seem to be the most logical. I also agree this should be used in either very hot climates or for spirited driving and track days. No sense to run a cooler engine for day to day driving.

PTF on FB states that the pump is not working all the time and the only change made is that the thermostat is set to open 10 degrees cooler than normal.

just the thermostat opening sooner doesn't seem like enough to keep the operating temperature down. the thermostat usually is closed until the vehicle warms up, then opens to allow coolant flow, but the actual cooling is done by the water pump, fan, radiator, and flow of air while.driving. unless the bmw thermostat operates a little differently. I was under the impression that the cooler flash has to do with the secondary water pump (read somewhere there is an electrical and mechanical) and fan running.

Indeed you are right that the actual cooling is affected by those 4 factors. If the water pump operation is not affected by the change, then that really just leaves the radiator(s) cooling capacity and air flow, be it from driving or the fan. If i understand correctly, not all cars have the auxiliary radiator/water pump (i forget if it was Msport, hot climate, or what). My understanding is also that both water pumps are electric - as far as i know there is no mechanical water pumps on these cars. Having said that, after running MHDs performance cooling with the lower target, my main radiator fan seems to be running every single time i go to park the car, even when its only about 75F outside. I did not seem to notice this before the flash, even when ambient temps were higher during the summer. These cooling options havent been out long enough to tell if there will be any accelerated wear on the fan, water pump, etc. I assume its probably negligible, especially if you are driving on the highway, but that's just my speculation. As mentioned above, it's not totally necessary to run the lower coolant target all the time anyways; the stock tune/coolant target was optimized for the car from BMW. |

Hmmm, weird. I'm on Android and the last map update I'm seeing is June and version 6.4.
Well I'm a dummy... looks like the version didn't update, just config. I was looking for the wrong thing.
