N55 Boost problems?

So I recently posted a thread due to my wastegate stop position being off, I was able to adjust the wastegate and the car was running good.

I dont usually get this code if I'm just daily driving normal, However, after extended periods of acceleration and pushing the car on the freeway with constant acceleration, id get code

120308 boost pressure regulation, plausiblility: pressure to low

I checked my CP and everything looked good, I have a VRSF CP and IC, I havent upgraded the turbo side chargepipe though.

Yesterday, I was pushing the car on the freeway to try to catch a log of it but unfortunately i couldnt get the log but now I"m also throwing code:

18F01 Intake system: Suspected Leak between turbocharger and intake valves

I bought a new pressure converter, but I can't even locate it; could that be the issue?

Both of those code suggest a boost leak. You need to do a smoke/pressure test of the entire CP system from the turbo to the TB/engine.

You have a pretty significant boost leak buddy.

I'm calling up a couple shops to get a smoke test done right now as it seems my best bet to figure this out.

Previously, I would intermittently get a Fuel Tank Vent Valve Malfunction code, that would come and go, I'm not sure if this could affect this in any way?

I checked my CP and CP TO IC connections and theyre good.

How did you check them if not with a pressure/smoke test? Visual inspection, wiggling them, etc, doesn't really tell you anything. You could also be leaking from turbo to TIC, TIC to IC, CP meth bung plugs, either side of the CP coupler, CP to TB, CP map sensor, the vacuum line on the CP, etc.

Then you definitely don't have a leak.. its gotta be something else.

Glad you got that fixed!

Usually it's either the diverter valve OR the chargepipe.

Thought I did but nope…

Still throwing the same codes.

At this point I'm lost and looking to do a smoke test on my own.

Have brand new Turbosmart DV, Brand new turbo inlet to intake pipe, chargepipe is already installed along with upgraded FMIC.

Haven't changed the boost pipe but it looks fine.

Car runs fine usually but once I'm in higher MPH 80-100 range for a while it will throw the code..

Another update:

So I've replaced the DV and the inlet, both which honestly looked great and in good condition.

Initially this all started as a wastegate issue but I'm sure this leak had probably been present prior and maybe could have caused the wastegate issue. Who knows really.

I realized the C clip on my chargepipe was installed backwards, so I pulled that out squeezed it down and reinstalled it and it fits more secure.

Upon further inspection, boost pipe looks good too, but ordered a new one from FTP anyway.

Taking a second look at all connections I notice the "Sucking Jet Pump" which has initially broke the clip on installation I believe was now loose. I'm able to grab it and with enough pressure pull it all the way out, I'm pretty sure now that the wastegate issue could have led the seal weakening there maybe? Either way… ordered than and also gonna replace the tank vent valve since I have one laying around.

Fingers crossed this fixes things as I haven't found a shop near me to do an affordable smoke test… last resort is to remove everything and check O rings but hope it doesn't get to that.[IMG][/IMG]

I describe how to build a home-made pressure tester in this thread: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1621695

I doesn't do smoke, but its how i identified my IC-CP connection leak.

GOAT. Thank you. Will try this this weekend or hopefully sooner.

Will probably also just bite the bullet and upgrade all the O rings as I saw you mention in another thread. It might not be the issue now but it's better to prevent it later on.

So after tightening in that clip, the car is producing more boost pressure and more boost than before.

I was trying to log and was able to replicate the code on one of these two logs..

Cant really do anything with these logs. Need a "proper" WOT pull. See my datalogging thread here: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1732327

Thank you.

Kind of hard to find the opportunity in LA with traffic everywhere but I tried to get some pulls in.

Sucking jet pump is coming in a few days so I just taped up the connector on the intake hose and tried to get a couple logs

I get it, i live in OC. I looked at that log, but unfortunately can't use that to look at boost control. You need WOT for at least several seconds in a higher gear

Going to get a log today since it's my day off.

I was able to install the TIC pipe and the codes dissapeared on their own without clearing— now I'm getting

102001 air mass too high

Is that just a tuner code?

Another thing I want to mention which I find weird, I had flashed my car to Stock tune to pass emissions and put the stock DP on.
Originally the flash failed, and I reflashed it. And all was good.
Now that I put the catless DP , I'm not even getting a code for the catless DP?

Could it be that I just need to reflash it again? Don't see why it won't pull the code up if I'm on stock tune and locked dme(for CA emissions) and I was able to pas the smog test with flying colors

I cleared the code… and it didn't come back. Gonna drive around a bit and see what's up.

I also changed my downpipe back to stock, so I'm hoping it's not that I tightened it back up wrong.. lol.

Why would you change the dp? That has nothing to do with any of that.

I changed to stock DP for CA emissions so I was changing it back, had to get the smog.

Gladly… the original codes are gone after upgrading the boost and turbo inlet pipes..
