FTP charge + boost pipe fitment Intercooler

Is it normal that the fitment is quit loose intercooler <-> chargepipe and the same for the boostpipe ?

Checked youtube but nobody is pre fitting the charge and boost pipe with the intercooler before installing

That does look pretty loose. If the o'ring doesn't seal you are going to get a boost leak.

I vaguely recall that even with larger orings i had some play when test fitting on the floor. IF in doubt just go up in oring size. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1659611

This is why BMW and every other manufactuer uses plastic. And no, it's not an issue on the charge pipe/IC side as we've NEVER heard of a failure at this connection point on the stock charge pipe. Plastic has some flexibility and will fit tighter.

My FTP charge pipe was slightly loose on my Wagner intercooler and over time and 1000s of miles of driving, I could reach under the charge pipe/IC connection and feel oil residual which indicates not a fully tight seal. There is no major leak as there is no sound and WG duty cycles are fine. I would imagine most every metal charge pipe has this issue, most just don't know it. I just ended up taking 2" wide heavy duty electrical tape and wrapping it around the connection. Been fine for the last 3 years.

I do plan to buy the revised OEM charge pipe with the far more robust CP to throttle body connection. I like the OEM CP for fitment and also lack of heat soaking.

I was running 22psi for tens of thousands of miles while racing and never had any of the issues that you describe.. you had an issue 😆

The oem plastic pipes are garbage and the "revised" one is garbage and still breaks and flows like shit.

I emailed the shop were i bought the charge + boost pipe. Showed them the video, they say it is normal it is ok...

I emailed FTP themself and showed them the video
They responded " Hello sir Yes, that is normal After sealing and fitting, there will be no air leakage. Don't worry, we had all done smoke testing "

So i asked them again, but it is allready sealed, you know for sure it is ok?

and then they replied

hello
Iam also a BMW owner

That smoke test means nothing if it wasn't pressurized to ~20psi. Anyways, what you showed does appear to be normal and is probably fine.

Does the MAD Charge Pipe and 5" HD Intercooler have a more snug connection?
Could you upload a video showing that?
