Cold weather start and operation
For a 2015 X3 28d what has been the experience of others for a low cold soaked temperature start and operating?
I live on the west coast where minimum temperatures are about -5c/23F.. Planning a trip where overnight lows may be much lower and wondering at what point I should seek heated underground parking. Thank you. |

I would maybe think about using some winter fuel additive, making sure I had a full tank.
If you've got a good battery, you should be just fine.

I've owned a number of diesel cars over the last 40 years; five VWs, an Audi and two BMW 328d's, all in New England. I have never once had a problem getting any of them started in even below zero temps when many people were having trouble getting their gasoline-engined cars started.
I've done nothing special at all in the way of fuel additives, block heaters or anything else. Sometimes I had to glow the '77 and '79 Rabbits (remember those?) twice, but that's it. Last edited by ChinaBob; 01-06-2021 at 07:50 PM.. |

MN here. Our two diesels stay in the garage most nights but no issues. We’ve left them at the airport for a week in sub zero temps and while they crank a bit slower no issues. I do run an additive.
