New to BMW
I am going to be getting a 17 BMW 328d Wagon Xdrive on Saturday.
I have a ton of questions but my most immediate one is does about the warranty. The guy is offering me a bumper to bumper warranty for an additional 75k miles. I will do this amount of mileage in 2 years probably. Cost is about $35 a month for the 6 year note. So... I'll be paying for it long after it is useless to me. Anyway, I'm trying to currently decide if I want the warranty or not. That's the only choice I have left. If not, do you know of any good warranties I should buy for a BMW? It will come with right under 36k miles. Just for reference. I'm a 40 year old widow with 5 daughters ranging from 12-21. We do lots of sports and traveling. I also live on a small homestead. I never get offended, so pretend I'm one of the guys and say whatever you're thinking. |

Hello Riggers30, welcome!
I may be a bit biased because I do all my own work (mechanical and electrics) and my 328d wagon has been very reliable. It's at 122k now. I would not pay $2500 myself for extended warranty, but if that covers everything, it's not a horrible price. Here we help each other quite a lot, so you may avoid having unnecessary work or at least get good opinions on what's what. Looking to hear others' thoughts.

I'm usually not a warranty type either. I don't know much about BMWs though and the guy made me super nervous about electrical issues. The reason I'm buying this BMW is because my Jeep Ecodiesel blew it's engine on the freeway last month. I'm getting my Jeep back SOMEDAY but in the meantime I needed a late model diesel. They're getting pretty hard to find.

Welcome to the Unicorn Club!
I gave brief overview of extended warranty options here, https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=16 Hopefully it will help you decide which is best. Also note that GOLFFRR offers the BMW OEM ESC at a decent discount as well.

So, I'm enjoying the car so far. We already slept in it which is essentially us breaking in any car. Lol.
Is there any way to sync the driver and passenger climate controls? And I found a silver bar in the under carpet compartment in the trunk. Any idea what it might be? Kind of looks like a single roof cross bar but that doesn't make much sense. Last edited by Riggers30; 06-28-2021 at 06:46 AM.. |

It's a luggage strap mechanism for the trunk. You plug it into the holes near the left and right wheelwell and then strap things in. I use it all the time.

Yes, so that I don't have to turn both knobs to control the entire climate.

There should be a button labeled "SYNC" on the climate controls, right near the A/C button.

The silver bar itself has large straps that come out from the sides

Riggers30 Welcome to BimmerPost, good to have you join us here from TDI Club!
Unfortunately, one thing about F30 and F31 Bimmers is the fact that we do NOT have a sync button on our climate controls. X5 and other models have a separate SYNC button which I like. I may have mild "OCD" - my zones have to match unless someone else is riding in passenger seat. Same as sub visors have to be up unless sun is shining. Are you happy with the change from a Passat? Is this car a lot more comfortable? I think overall, you will love it. Just like Enabled I fix and maintain my cars myself. And with our local dealer being quite incompetent, I did not want to take my car there even under warranty. But depending on your tool arsenal and your willingness to work on these, these tend to be good, reliable cars. You may end up dealing with emissions breakdowns, but they have made updates to make them even more reliable. if you don't mind, share your VIN number so we can look at the options your have, just out of curiosity. And posting pics of your cars is certainly a must! Welcome again! |

Look at the "high mileage" threads inside this forum. Many folks have racked up north of 100K miles, with a few handful that are well over 200K miles. Now that is getting into Toyota territory. When properly maintained, these cars runs happily for a long time. But according to my mechanic relative, Germans are a pain to work on just due to greater complexity and crammed environments. Just to reach a fill plug for my transmission, I had to disconnect a connector and exhaust components, almost feels like they do this stuff on purpose to spite DIYers.

Enabled And a Passat TDI in between, which proved to be a less than ideal match. We met on TDI Club forums. I still lurk in there sometimes - it is dying out however since TDI buybacks. I reckon it is worth trying a few things to find the right car. I love the space the Passat provides, but darn are those seats so uncomfortable and the infotainment system so outdated. An F30 for me was a breath of fresh air. Although I still love driving Passat once in a while. Haha
Welcome to being a Major @Enabled. Your 1000th post. LOL. |

I'm really enjoying driving this car much more than the Passat even if the rear leg room is nonexistent. It still took everything I had in me not to go ahead and buy the wrong diesel Tahoe on Thursday. Being responsible is so hard some days. Before this breakdown, I was 6 months away from being completely debt free. I won't be able to pay off this car in that time now and if I took on a Tahoe as well it would put off other longterm goals. I can have everything I want in due time. This car payment isn't enough to derail that. The steering took a little getting used to. Either it's my jittery nerves when I'm in a new car or AWD feels a little different. The radio is 1000x better. The seats are more comfortable. The pedal is more responsive. The black seats A++. I sure hope she lasts past 200k miles. Fingers crossed! |
