Fuel Pump left me stranded. Anyone else have this happen?

Hi,

So I'm driving, and from a stop light after taking off a little hard, i get a Drivetrain Malfunction Warning on the screen and the car had just enough juice left in it for me to pull over as it died on me. Once it died, it would not start again after many attempts.

Had it towed to the dealer and they had to replace the fuel pump. Car has only 2800 miles and is a 2014. WTF?

Car has an intake and had a bms stage one for 1,000 miles before this incident.

Would a stage 1 cause the stock pump to not keep up. I mean an increase of 3.5lbs of boost isn't much to work the pump that hard, correct?

Just really disappointed right now and lost confidence in the car. The tune has not been plugged back in for now. Just not really sure if this would happen again if it was put back in.

Are stock fuel pumps on these new 335's an issue like the N54?

TIA

It's the luck of the draw I guess. The HPFP on my 435 died right after my first oil change (at 8000 miles) as soon as my SA started it up. Absolutely NO PRIOR WARNING SIGNS pointing to a failure. I'm completely stock except for MPPK and MPE by the way.

Actually, the part number changed starting with 11/14 builds, so they may have changed something.

It's still garbage. It's hard for me to get consistant clean pulls. Maybe it is just the really cold outside temps but I'm having major fueling issues!

I have the same problem! My HPFP was just replaced last month and the car feels really laggy and down on power. Even with the MPPK and MPE, after the pump was replaced, the car doesn't feel the same at all. Sometimes it's quick and other times it hesitates. It NEVER behaved this way before the replacement HPFP

I had the exact same problem using bms stage 1!

Initially thought it was blown chargepipe but exact same scenario as OP; stop light, took off hard, limp.

Its just a bad fuel pump. It should be able to keep up with no problem

Do you have any way to log fuel pressure?

Is that different from gal/hr? If so, i'm not sure. I have a OBDII bluetooth monitor that transmit info to OBDFusion/DashCommand on my phone.

You need to use your Jb4 with BMS data cable to log

There was actually an open recall on certain 2014 335i's for fuel pumps that could potentially fail. I'd be willing to bet your car was part of the affected models. Mine was as well, however I had no issues with mine. Simply replaced the part and kept on chugging.
