Me too. Nearly bought the English Heritage version last week but OH said the chances of getting her to play are precisely zero.

Yeap - she loves it and it's better to sit with her and play that, than for her to stare blankly at a tablet / TV.

Spot on - I think some of the strategy games that have been talked about on here are good for developing enquiring minds. Used to play a few of these on the PC years ago with the boys - Total War series mostly.

Daughter was never interested in gaming - she was too busy with real-life stuff - outdoor tactical etc in the Air Cadets, live fire exercise was her favourite. Ended up as regional marksmanship Champion. She insists that even now she can strip an L98 with her eyes shut. Girls, eh?

I think there has to be a balance. I’ve never been a gamer, just not my thing.

But my 8 year old loves it, and given this years conditions a lot of his socialising has been playing games whilst FaceTiming his friends. I’ve tried playing fortnite with him but I usually die within about 30 seconds.

I try and make sure at the same time he’s got other interests, just passed his karate grading and got his green belt, and I taught him to play chess during lockdown, which he loves.

And apparently, psychologically speaking screen time playing games is no worse than TV screen time, and I did watch TV and watch movies as a child, especially after school.

I may order some Top Trumps cards as he’d probably love it. Although, the modern day equivalent, Pokemon cards and the like aren’t totally different, with some cards better than others and learning trading. Like 1 good card might be swapped for 10 average ones.

Did love air cadets, I remember summer camps at RAF Uxbridge, Kinloss and Lossiemouth.

I then volunteered as staff for a few years but left due to the amount of Walt staff within the wing.

Did much the same myself, albeit in a time when the training rifle of choice was a full-fat Lee Enfield 303 and the air experience flight training was done in Chipmunks - usually with holes in the floor you could see through

Was a Warrant Officer when I left - eyesight wasn't good enough for flight status in the RAF and I didn't feel inclined to drive a desk...

Ah Chipmunks, 303s and annual camp. Happy days. Still remember the time my mate stuffed his beret under his jumper to soften the recoil but forgot to take the badge off first. Probably still got an eagle imprint in his right shoulder

Apparently Nellie the Elephant has got COVID-19. When asked who she caught it from, she said....
