Thinking about getting a GTS metal hood for my F33 435i off ebay. Do any of you have experience with this hood? If so, how was the fitment and how much did you get charged to paint it?

I bought from that exact seller. Fitment was pretty good. Slight adjustment of the bumper and fender of course. My body shop charged me $550 out the door. Install + paint. Mine is Alpine white. So not that difficult.

I think this mod is in my near future but I keep thinking about all that water getting into the engine bay through the vent. The hood literally funnels the water into the engine bay.

It comes with the vent blocker thing so no water seeps in. I use that when its raining and take it back out when the weather is nicer. But it rarely rains here in So Cal so.

I just ordered my GTS hood from the mentioned eBay seller yesterday - shipped the same day

Any chance you could take pics of the vent rain blocker?

I ordered from this seller. Would not ship. A month passed and nothing. Ordered from the other vendor, the metal hood wouldn’t align. The vent blocker doesn’t work. It arrived dented in the bottom and one edge tweaked.

Would keep oem if I could do it all over again.


In order for it to be completely seal proof you have to epoxy a block on the vent.

Also the vent flew off on the interstate because it came loose with the vibration of the hood. I got a replacement vent and that is crap too.

Good luck. Looks cool though.

Maybe a shipping issue? This vendor actually lives in So Cal and I was able to pick it up from them directly for $575 since they did not have to ship. Did not have any problems since.

The vendor will definitely take care of you both of them. I believe theyre both from socal.

I showed them the damage, and actually let me keep the hood and reimbursed me for 60% of it.

The first vendor reimbursed me for not shipping, and wound up sending me decals and a shirt. I didnt ask for it, it just showed up in the mail.

I have the hood on now. I am not fan of the vent. What i did, i bought a plastic bin from walmart, got the lid, cut out a perfect vent block that would sit flat against the plastic vent. I plastic welded from the back. Epoxied. Then sealed it with silicon. Cant even tell. Its the only way to avoid water in the engine bay. Especially if you have a CAI, the filter will get wet.

Now the vent itself has flimsy clips that clip into the hood. Make sure you bend them and over the hood edge. Even if you hear the clipping noise, make sure they bend over. I had to use a hooked driver to bend it over. After that it was pretty secure.

Also the washer line clips slide out. They will break so just study your plan of attack on how to pull em out.

Next. Vin sticker. Take a picture of it. Go online, find shop that will replicate it as a decal. and stick it underneath.

Finally. Dont worry about the insulation from your old hood. Its not gonna be used, so make sure your painter paints the hood completely underneath. Loosen your bumper and pull it forward, and adjust from rear to front, to avoid any paint-to-paint contact as you close hood.

Order the GTS hood 1/31 - shipped the very same day by Pilot Freight w/Tracking - ETA 2/10 from Cali to PA

I'll let you know condition of hood when received, but was guaranteed that if there is any damage at all that it would either be replaced or refunded.

From the YT videos I have seen of this exact hood install it appears fitment is 9 out of 10 without much messing around & gets nothing but praise.

I had a M3 style steel hood on my 328 back when & that experience was excellent.

No DIY - shop that does all my painting will be installing

Depending on quality of the Rain Blocker - I may construct my own as mentioned - but would not want it to be permanent, so different attachment design will need to be thought up.

As far as vent flying off due to vibration - if I feel fitment is not tight enough I will use some 3M double sided tape - or possibly just order the OEM Vent if I no like the aftermarket quality.

Did the same on my old M3 hood - ordered the OEM vents for higher quality/fitment and they fit the aftermarket hood perfectly...

I am not too worried about the water through the vent honestly.. I got a chance to crawl over two F82 M4s with the CS hoods, and they vent to EXACTLY the same spot as my CF GTS copy.

My thought was, if OEM is fine, mine should be fine.

Received my steel GTS Hood today

Well packaged in double cartons plus bubble wrap and all edges/corners protected with formed heavy hi density foam pcs (especially the damage prone rear corners by the windshield)

No damage whatsoever. All appropriate holes punched as per OEM, even the rear washer line mtg points

Vent did NOT include a block off plate, so if I ever decide to use one I'll have to make one myself. Gonna give it a go without one for a while based on BMWDIYGUY advice

I am thinking about getting the Seibon VS hood now. Did you guys ceramic coat or add more clear coat to your carbon fiber hoods?

It did for the hood I bought - can't say for any other vendors

YES

I did notice a slight difference between the vent that was supplied with the hood vs. the OEM vent - the OEM vent has better style clips + it also uses 3M double sided tape around the edges of the vent between the clips that helps to attach the vent to the hood more securely

Anyone have any input regarding water coming through the vent and into the engine bay? Or if its safe during a crash?
