Realistic cost of a BMW?

I'm looking to get either a used 428i or 435i, I'm seeing prices $48k Canadian and up. Just wondering what other additional cost's are added onto this? Does the price already include tax? If I was to get a car for say $50k what would you think the final price would be to get it on the road?

I've been to the dealer a couple of weeks ago but they were all too busy there, thats why I have come here for help!

Not sure how it works in Canada..but in the US it does NOT include sales tax and licensing, etc. You left out a ton of variables...financing all of it, etc so no real hard answer. Insurance here is dependent also on driving record, age, etc. It looks like sales tax for you is about 5%..so a 48K car is about 50,400. Ins for my age is dirt cheap..but yours may vary.

Lol @ too busy. Was this at T+C?

Anyways, the MSRP that you see online has most items except for HST. If you hover over the amount, you can see the breakdown.

Saturday is the worst day to try to buy a car. Serious buyers go during the week, before noon, and even better if in the rain or snow.

Do your research, find the Kelly Blue Book or another similar site to help guide you on what people pay in your area, then negotiate the price of the car first before any test drive. Even if you don't buy that brand, the experience will be good practice.

I went during the week, at night near closing and in the rain. The Tri-fecta!!

I personally wasn't impressed with T+C. It was by far one of the worst dealership experiences I've ever had. That actually goes for most of the dealers (not just BMW) in the east end of the GTA (Markham/Richmond Hill area).

This is my personal experience though. There must be tons of people who have good experiences, otherwise I wouldn't see so many T+C plate covers out there. I for one, am personally willing to pay a little bit extra for a dealership/sales rep who make an effort to show that they value my business.

Sign up for APA: http://www.apa.ca/
Fill in the details of the car you want and they'll send you contact information for a dealership that's willing to deal at near invoice cost.

I saved a ton going this route.

thanks everyone

anyone have any tips on negotiating a price? The only time my dad did it was with his Honda and we basically kept going back and forth with a price and settled on one price. How low would you go on a car worth 48k?

Look at unhaggle.ca

I threw in a 428i and it has a base price of $44,900; and according to this website the dealership cost is $41,310

Rule of thumb is go in 2-3% higher than the dealership cost and you could get a deal.

A good deal is 10% off MSRP, a great deal is 15% off MSRP. Keep in mind i only buy cars between June and August when they want to move the previous model years off the lot.

+5% to both of those numbers if you want a newer model and they don't have any old models on the lot.

I went on Dec 24th and bought my F30; end of the year was amazing to buy a 2014 model.

The summer is great if you're planning on buying a Ford bc they have the Employee pricing event; I remember when I got my wife's Edge Sport model I saved around 8k-10k bc of that event.

Also there are many other services one can use to help negotiate car purchases;
