Anyone run this with BM3 and the max cooling? For everyone who’s installed this part, does it keep the oil temps from rising up to ~250 degrees after some WOT pulls?

I haven’t gone over 225deg once since I’ve installed the MSL...regardless of my driving exuberance, or the outside temps.

Anyone run some blackstone tests on a good oci? Just wondering if you are seeing more moisture in the oil since it is running cooler.

225 is more than hot enough to not see any increased moisture, from what I’ve read. I use only BMW oil, and change at 2x recommended intervals - no oil testing. Most other BMW engines using this same oil run cooler avg oil temps than the 250 I was seeing in my N55.

Correct - CBS puts it at typically 10k miles, I do 5K mile oil changes. Two for every one they recommend.

I run it with a lowered coolant target in MHD. I think it's set to 85c iirc, 'sport cooling' option. In hot weather the oil temp does not go above 100c though the actual coolant target changes based on mode. In sport+/DSC off, it goes from 80-85c ish, and in comfort it's around 95. I will likely raise the coolant target to stock for winter to get a higher amount of heat in the bay as as put the foam and engine cover back on top.

So with the thermostat, lower coolant target, and removal of the stock cat the engine bay has the best thermals its going to reasonably get.

Doesn't your main radiator fan run significantly more with the sport cooling option? I ran it for like a week a long time ago and even when it was only 75-85F outside i could hear and feel my radiator fan running a LOT. Turned it off because i find it unnecessary for daily driving. Having the lower oil T-stat might help a but since the engine isnt fighting hotter oil to reach a lower coolant target, but still.

Yeah, if you don't change it, it lasts as long as your engine does... then you change both.

The radiator fan runs more than stock, but only after sitting stationary for a while. In my driving, or because of the oil thermostat, I don't see this much. I know others have reported it running a lot and sounding loud. Iirc the main radiator fan is a 1000w 3 phase/brushless motor so from a reliability stand point, it doesn't really matter if it runs more, just personal preference

Sometimes its the attention to the smallest details that makes the biggest statement!

Mosselman Turbo Systems have upgraded the reverse torx bolts, reusing the oem, to 10mm titanium bolts! Their oil thermostat upgrade was already really awesome in look and function, but this just tops it off!

Well done!

Yeah, I got the Ti bolts, they’re visible in the pic I posted. Very subtle, oem+.

Actually a great video... I've been on the fence changing my oil once every year since I drive less than a thousand miles a year... knowing oil is key (especially on BMWs').. I change it just for the fact of it's cheap insurance...

Does this have any effect on the reliability of the oil filter housing gasket? Or will it that still leak every 50k (or so) miles?
