Stock cars smell on cold starts. The cat has to heat up first to actually do its job.

I'm not noticing any smell with my AA catted downpipe. All I notice is improved sound, performance and fun!

When did you install it? I coulda sworn it wasn't this smelly when it was first installed either. Not sure why it would smell more after a little while. I'm not running a tune and don't have any modified burbles so I don't think it's degraded in any way...

It smells way more than stock. It's pretty much catless. Stock I had no smell in the back just gas smell but it smells catless for a good while after starting and at some lights with the windows down. I bought this expensive cat because I was trying to avoid this very issue...

Sounds about right

We are discussing kianf22's issue in another thread, it either was not installed correctly or his cats are defective

That's not what I said lol. Before purchasing the downpipe I sooooort of ran it by my service adviser. What I mean by this is when I asked him if my intake would be okay he said yes and it would "only void the warranty for the intake" and if I have any issues they may ask me to go to stock to diagnose. He specifically said if it doesn't cause a check engine light I would be okay. My eyes lit up when I heard this and I ordered the downpipe because of the no cel no smell. I'm just worried that if my car is super smelly then this "should be fine" agreement would be off and they might say something to me.. I obviously know that my dealer can easily tell I have an aftermarket downpipe bud.

Catted version and I opted with the optional new gasket as well. I could of sworn it didn't smell this much when I first got it which makes me suspect cat failure. I'll try to take my car to the shop to check for leaks before contacting active as Mike suggested but I already spent $150 installing the downpipe and would rather not spend more lol especially if it ends up being a failure and I have to pay to remove it again.

If it's not a bad install or leak, it has to be a failed CAT. Unless you are too sensitive to the fuel smell, in this case, you should stick to the stock downpipe

Can anyone that has an enet cable connect their car with MHD to read DME codes and verify whether or not you have this code with the catted downpipe? :/

A proper catted DP shouldn't throw that code. My CG DS-1 doesn't.

Damn it. Originally wanted the CG but it was on backorder. Mike convinced me to get this one and I assumed it would actually smell LESS and be less likely to have cel issues because it's 300 cell and the cg was 200 cell... Thats really annoying. Hope this gets sorted out soon. Gonna have a dealer visit coming up and want it sorted before then. How's the smell on the CG? I was expecting no smell with this AA dp but it's actually decently smelly. Chokes me up in the garage with the garage door open.

Most high-flow catted DP's will smell. Idk what to tell you lol. People roll their windows up if I'm accelerating past them in an adjacent lane. If I've pushed the car hard on the highway and exit off at a stoplight, you smell it just a little bit with the windows down. No passenger/date has ever complained and I normally don't smell it, even with my windows down.

CG is 5", so sufficient surface area despite using only a 200 cspi cat. I also think they do something clever with the downstream o2 sensor location. Not sure on that last bit.

This makes me laugh - some people should not modify their cars period. My AA smells a little on immediate startup - but nothing I would complain about at all and it is gone by the time I am off my street.

Seems like a CAT failure, first the extra smell and now the CEL. I think 1QuikWS6 has been running the AA catted downpipe for more than a year without any issues. I finally went with catless and the smell doesn't bother me, I'm also very sensitive to smell, I only notice it properly inside the closed garage after a trip.

Nothing wrong with smell if that's what's advertised. There is something wrong, however, when you pay $900+ for a downpipe that isn't suppose to smell the way it does. If I bought a cheap catless downpipe I wouldn't have an issue with it. A little smell is fine but in my opinion it's way too much and has been increasing steadily since it's been installed. My DME seems to think so too, hence the code. I get the smell on startup and that is expected but the smell isn't gone when i'm down the street like you are describing.. So keep laughing... i guess?

I agree. The increased smell and the code seem to support this, but to clarify, I don't have a CEL. my downpipe hasn't been on for very long and I haven't put too many miles on it so it may pop up later...but.. currently I have no CEL on my dash. When I connect a code reader, however, I see 180001. Have cleared it a couple times and it's still came back.
