F30 335i - High mileage. Reliable?

Hi,
I’m just wondering, how reliable are your 335i?
I mean 60k+ miles.
Mine is now 80k+ and (knock on wood) no problems. I just want to know, how it is with yours?
Cheers

I bought a 335xi 2013 with around 69K km. I was sure to get extended warranty. Since I bought it: rear ball joint changed; rear shocks changed; exhaust changed (flap making noise); thermostat malfunctioned (couldn’t rev over 2.5); headlight changed. I also changed spark plugs and coolant, engine air filter. Now hearing noise when clutch disengaged at idle, and exhaust flap making noise again. Thankfully still under warranty.

Not to mention three tires needing to be changed because of bubbles.

Would I buy a BMW again? Probably. But be prepared for the little things. Could be costly.

I just bought one with 11500km (70k+ miles?) on it 2 months ago, seems to be well looked after and feels fine.

Climate and how rigorously the maintenance procedures were followed have a lot to do with longevity. Quite a few BMW buyers look for used vehicles in states (at least in the US) with little or no snow, moderate temperatures. Full service history is essential regardless of where the car has been driven.

It's sad to say but BMW (and may other manufacturers) are designing cars to last around 100k miles.

Yes with proper maintenance and some luck they will last longer, but with all the plastic and electronics these days, it's going to get harder to keep cars past that mileage and around 10 years.

Thinks like water pumps are not so bad but the number of oil leaks that appear and cost $$ to fix, start to add up and then if anything electronic goes, then it's more $$$

Hopefully BMW learnt a thing or 2 about improving reliability after working with Toyota for their 2020 Supra. I know Toyota rejected a lot of parts back when testing BMW's modular B58 because toyota will not put up with this joke of a reliability for their Supra. Currently BMW's reliability is rated far under Audi and even worse than Mercedes, and being worse than Mercedes is pretty hard to do...

I've had my car for a little over two years now. I bought it with 39k miles and now there's 65k and for the past 18 months I've had it at Stage 2 and I've had no issues. Just regular and preventative maintenance and it's been fine. In fact I sent my oil to Blackstone and they said my engine is below all their average wear metrics. On all accounts I'd say the car has been very easy to deal with.

im at 88k. had valve cover gasket replaced under warranty. have had many troubles with headlights. right now i have a headlight malfunction and the lights want to point down. i have dealt with this issue before. full service liquid change. oil changes done at the most 10k. since tuning the car i change oil and filter at 6k 7k.

sometimes i need to add a quart of oil after 2,500 miles of hard driving.

hood latches broke. couldnt open hood a few months ago.

really curious about diff fluid change and the xdrive box. (cant think of the name right now)

getting tires lowering springs and alignment.

moving on from the run flats. tires have worn on out side and inside in front and middle for the back. needs alignment.

over all i give the car a high b+ like an 89 out of 100. alot of little stupid things. oil leaks.

i have upgraded some oem parts with some go fast bits. chargepipe, intercooler, downpipe, drop in high flow filter, resonator delete.

car used to be boring to drive and now its an experiance.

has a mean cold start aswell.
i have a 2013 bmw f30 335ix 6mt.
peace and bump thread curious to see how these cars are fairing this summer as the miles continue to roll!

i put 20,000 miles on my car since january. shes been parked in the garage the last two weeks.

take note that every time i drive i am wot with aggresive driving. and the car loves life.

I'm just about at 100k and owned since new. I had a brake pad sensor fail while still under warranty, and I had the typical oil filter housing gasket failure at like 75k miles. That's it so far. 🤞🏻

83k miles here, have had it since 16k. Thermostat and charge pipe both went out under warranty, plus an oil filter housing gasket leak a few k miles back.

I've read they can last a long time if taken care of. Not many people have gotten them up to these mileages yet though. I got my 335i for a good deal and it's up at 176k miles. The mechanic that did the PPI said it's in good running condition so I bought it. I've read the long block its self is pretty solid (like many of their i6's over the years), it's the crap bolted to it that goes out. Lol I'm a hardcore DIY'er and I'm willing to get my hands dirty for such a nice car. We will see what happens...

Got mine last year in march at 15,367 miles, tuned around 18-20k miles on stage 1. Tuned stage 2 OTS map around 22k. Custom tune around 25k ish, currently sitting at 60,250miles.

wasn't needed but so far did brake fluid flush, coolant flush with regular needed oil changes, etc. Changing engine oil every 5k miles, signature shows all the parts etc that were added/upgraded. By no means I baby it, I am aggressive driver (safe for sure lol) and we go on drive with my friends where we rip it every 2-3 weeks.

No issues whatsoever so all I would say is that drive it as hard as you wish as long as you can maintain it well, on time, maybe even before you need to. Like, be proactive about it? Just like getting a flu shot even though you don't have the flu but you get a shot so you don't get a flu haha.

N55 extremely reliable, like its counterpart S55 engine. Only major issue I can think of is leaking OFHG. The rest is normal, tires, spark plugs, etc

I bought a 335i f30 2012, early production 11/2011. It had 55k miles at the time of purchase on Jan 2021. So past owner drove 6k/year on average. PPI indicated a good condition on the engine and transmission, suspension, brakes and overall build. I asked the mechanic specifically for any indication of bearings, leaks issues. So far after 22 months of ownership and an added 25k miles the car had the following issues.:

Valvetronic system, the actuator and eccentrics shaft had to be replaced
Valve cover Gasket
PCV jet vacuum hose
Intake air-duct
Water pump
Thermostat
Daylight running light LED passenger side
Return cooling line
Tensioner
Belt
Pulley (added cost for the front crank hub guard)
New bolts for the harmonic balancer
Turbo oil return line

I still need to replace the brake booster seal or the booster itself as there is a leak during extreme cold temperatures
Oil pan gasket
Diff fluid

All in all 4K in parts - I’m a DYI guy and don’t let other people touch the car, so keep in mind that with labour you are easily walking on a 10k territory.

It’s a fun car, looks great (I’m polishing and paint correcting at home). Lots of space and can accommodate a family easily. BUT as it gets older and ECUs/sensors die out the diagnostic and repair bills can be of an EXTREME headache.

Bonus: 99% of parts and service require coding and specific software for it which is an extra cost.
I changed the oil with penzoil euro platinum 5w30 5k miles max, Mann oil filter, let the car warm up before driving, always check for oil level and never went below limits. Oil analysis sent to black stone lab every other change always came back with a healthy report. I am helping to reach a 220k miles target it will give me another decade of free car payments.
