This seems like an odd consideration set when looking for suspension. It should be based on spring rates, dampening/rebound, ride height, etc.

How long are you planning to keep the car, and what is the likelihood that you'll need to replace a shock or strut after you install your new suspension?

I've never replaced suspension on one car more than once, out of all the cars I've owned over the years. I usually keep my cars an average of 4-7 years. Maybe I'm just the minority

Perhaps I phrased that poorly. I've been researching/reading about suspension upgrades every since I got the car (5 months ago) and every time I *think* I settle on one option/brand as the overall best compromise the next post I read is a string of folks having either quality control issues or ride quality issues. I haven't seen either of those complaints (so far) with the M Performance suspension upgrade. It also seems to fit my needs as being fairly close to the OEM M Sport suspension while offering sharper handling and a subtle lowering for a nice appearance.

Is there any difference between the red and black springs other than color?

The black ones are the stock springs, the red ones are the M Performance springs. With the stock springs the ride is noticeably softer and the ride height is not lowered.

IIRC from reading about this, the black springs are run of the mill M Sport springs from the OEM suspension. The reds are 10mm lower and made specifically for the M Perf Suspension.

My car came with the standard suspension and the springs were black. The reds lower the stock suspension 20mm, the M Sport 10mm.

Picked up my car yesterday after having the m-performance susp. installed. Very pleased, it's just how I wanted it to be. I'm sure I'll be more pleased once it settles in.

I will say I am considering swapping out for PSS10 or KW street comfort. Not sure if it will happen though and if the price of admission will be worth it at this point.

Do you know the part #s for the springs? Been looking for them everywhere but get different part #s.
I'm looking into replacing my 704 Sports Suspension since it's at 74k miles.

I'm planning on purchasing the BMW M Performance Suspension kit from getBMWparts.

I looked up the kit in BMW ETK for a breakdown of the include parts. I was hoping those who have purchased this kit can confirm this breakdown.

Total cost of accessories potentially included in the BMW M Performance Suspension Kit: ~$620

It looks to me like you're looking at the Sports Suspension, not the M Performance Suspension. This is the one you need:

i don't remember my m-perf. susp. coming with a list or any list at all in the box, for that matter.

it came with a bag of nuts and bolts that we replaced where we could but remember that it did not have every nut or bolt that we removed. so we used the originals if they did not have a replacement nut or bolt.

The most costly parts are the front and rear top hats (aka guide support).

just curious, are you buying the pieces ala carte? my kit came with everything including top hats. the only thing it may not have come with is the thin gasket between the top hat and the car. we just assembled off the car and did full swap.

I did not want to buy all the pieces a la carte.

I was curious as to whether the kit would include all components to allow me to separate a DIY into a two stage process:

1. Assemble new spring/strut assemblies.
2. Remove old spring/strut assemblies and install new spring/strut assemblies.

If the kit didn't come with the components to do this and required a large expense separate of the kit, I was more inclined to go with coilovers (Ohlins) instead.

That's interesting. The Bentley manual illustrates that thin gasket you're referring to while RealOEM does not.

+1.

It's not expensive when you also consider the fact that it appears the kit comes with a lot of the nuts/bolts and top hats.

I've never understood why anyone would try to driveway mechanic their own spring/strut combo on a RWD F30 when BMW offers the kit at $1600.

A poorly matched aftermarket spring/strut combo is not significantly less expensive than this kit.
