The alternator went at 61k. But as enabled said, sure seems like a weird coincidence with all the other work I just had done. I think the alternator blew at the dealership. As for start stop, I don’t use it. But I’m the 2nd owner and who knows what the first owner did for the first 54k miles.

Looking for an update myself. I have 147k miles on mine and may be looking to get rid of it. KBB is only like 5-6k on it. Just got the flex disc recall checked and transfer case gtg. Had transfer case replaced before my CPO ended at 98k. Any new major repair and it's a wrap I think. Anyone pass 200k yet?

I'm at 145XXX miles myself - haven't had the recall check yet but getting it in shortly for that.
So far (knock on wood) no major problems at all - all the normal wear and tear items but that's it. |

Driving back from WY to TX last week when in KS got the drivetrain malfunction light and P049D code. 90,000 miles. EGR valve and fuel rail sensor. Dealership there said they could replace the flex disc recall for me, whereas my normal TX dealership had said they couldn't get the parts yet, and yup I had the metal one that needs replacing before it takes out the transfer case (again).

Have you checked your ash mass/regen mileage? A chance you might be able to keep going without replacement for more miles than dealer claims. Also very impressive mileage. How has the car aged? I know you have not had many major issues from previous posts, but anything of note come up lately?

Correct, it's the programmed lifetime of it.
There are companies that say they flush and clean it out, so that may be worth checking into. Then the dpf can be registered as exchanged and the stored code will go off. |

Hi everyone, i thought i would chime in. i am in love with my 2016 m sport. i have a 200 mile commute daily so this is the perfect car for me.
Overall it's been pretty maintenance free other than the typical issues. i purchased the car at 30,000 Mi and i now have almost 70,000 MI. Issues so far have been: drivetrain malfunction which was a fuel injector and EGR valve both nox sensors wubwubwub noise replaced tires I do all maintenance myself, pump the oil out every 5,000 MI and change the filter. diesel filter every 30,000 MI. reputable local trans shop did a fluid drain and filter change at 65k. The engine compartment always seems very dusty. as i was replacing the air filter behind the box was a oily connector. does anybody have an idea what that would be? no oil dripping just sooty. |

That's the CCV connector pipe from the engine to the turbo inlet.

Other than the trasfer case(s) issue i was having i haven't had anything malfunction on the car as of yet. One EGR Valve replacement a few months ago as it was coding that it was "stuck open." Car seemed to drive exactly the same before and after replacement.
The DPF was something i never considered needing replacement so after some research online i've been using a rather expensive cleaner product every 10k miles or so. I'd love the (!) light to go off on the dash and for it to stop reminding me to consult my service center everytime i shut the car off so i may ask them to reset the coding. Never going to replace it as it's more than the car is worth at this point. i'm pulling 40k miles per year so it's almost entirely highway mileage which is why i've probably had less issues than others on this forum. |

217k cont.
Not saying it's not a good idea but i've never done any maintenance whatsoever that wasn't called for by the car. no trans fluid change, oil every 10k. I do the fuel filter every third change and brake lines every 2 years. the rear discs are even original as i'm only on my second pads if you can believe that. The one thing i never did was run it in ECO or SPORT mode, ever. i also disingaged the start/stop on day one because it just seems like a bad idea when the engine is hot to let oil sit in the turbo...unless it cycles it automatically - i could never hear anything or tell.
i wish there was something in 2020 i could replace it with because it's been a very reliable car and i'm getting 43.8 mpg combined for the last 20k miles. |

Just turned over 90k on my 2014 328d. Only issue was an exhaust sensor at 45k. Still on the original (non-M) brakes, although they will be replaced within the next 10k at most. Change oil every 10k, had tranny oil changed at 70k, brake fluid every 2 or 3 years.
Recently installed a Kerma tune to beef up performance a little bit. Takes a really long time to warm up in the winter, so I may be changing the t-stat next, along with radiator coolant. Wife drove and abused it for most of its life, before passing it on to me as a commuter car |

Mike-
I picked up a 2 owner 2016 XDrive wagon with 75k earlier this year and I have had no issues, other than some initial sketchiness with the iDrive and nav that seems to have somewhat healed itself. I love it. In my case, the biggest thing I fretted about was the transfer case issue, but I did enough research to determine that mine APPEARS to be built late enough that the issue was resolved. I passed on some earlier cars. -Scott |

Thanks, Scott.
The seller agreed to bring it to the dealership for the recall, so hopefully the transfer case will be in tip-top shape. While there, we're also having a PPI done. |

If you don't mind spending ~$50 for BimmerLink + OBDII adapter, you can run a scan to show all the permanent and previous errors. I believe Carly also has a "used car report" you can generate with an OBDII adapter (connected to your phone). This will go above and beyond what's been reported via CarFax.

He's bringing the car to a dealership tonight for the transfer-case recall and a pre-purchase-inspection. But we currently have 3 BMWs ('14 F10 diesel, '14 F15 diesel, and '04 E83)...I've been thinking I'd like to get the ability to read more and do modest programming. I'm almost certain at this point that my son will be getting this vehicle ~ he bought winter wheels for it yesterday and sold his car today (pending the new purchase). |

Any advice on specifics? BimmerCode or BimmerLink? OBD adapter specifics? I DID reach out to BimmerCode yesterday and their advice was OBDLink MX+ Hopefully getting this tomorrow (assuming the dealership has finished the transfer case work). Super-excited for my son. He's worked hard with his undergrad to get the internships and has saved his money...feels like a fun celebration of that. |
