I haven't seen any advice anywhere that says you need to wait that long. If they let you use launch control with Sport+ at 1200, the 25% boost from the piggyback shouldn't bother it.

Yup that makes sense.

Do you have the race chip? What are your thoughts? do you like it?

I was initially attracted to RC, then got involved with dealing with Kelleners Sport and Hartge, both of whom have a ton of experience with BMWs and are two of the "big boys" on the block (along with AC Schnitzer and Steinbauer Performance). If you read my post just four above this one, I now have reason to doubt whether the $1500 spent on a KS or Hartge is worth it now that folks are having at least short-term success with RC. But engine damage is usually a result of long-term more subtle abuse, rather than it blowing up the first time you use the piggyback. That's why I want to find out if RC has tested their parameters for the 328d on a 328d and not a 320d. If I find the answer is a yes, then I will feel comfortable about getting a Pro2.

I am not a fan of the BMS JBD, which supposedly can be used for the N47d20. The same JBD can be used on other diesel engine models as well, including pre-N47 engines. That's way too generic a tune for my taste.

I've got a final question via email in to Paul at RC and if it's answered positively I'd be ready to roll with a Pro2. How do we know how many people are participating in this group purchase? Has anyone else placed an order besides SF_60? I'm going to give the group buy a jolt and start a thread.

EDIT: I just realized that if you order from RaceChip directly there is free one-day express shipping. But if I order from dtmhaus I would need to pay $20+ shipping for UPS Ground. That takes a big bite out of the discount giving the group buy less than 10% off retail.

I requested info from AC Schnitzer USA and just got this back today:

Power goes from 180hp to 214hp @4000 rpm. Torque goes from 280lb-ft to 335lb-ft @ 2200rpm.

Paul at RC gave me the answer I was hoping for, so I'm going for the Pro2.

Well Paul, here it is six months later and I'm just about ready to place an order for the Pro2 for my 328d. I did have one final question before pulling the trigger: Has RC tested their power module in a North American 328d? I know that at least two other German tuners (Kelleners Sport and Schnitzer) have admitted that they haven't tested on a NA 328d because they can't find one in Germany. They have only tested on the N47d20 in the 320d.The NA N47d20 has a different set of injectors from the same engine in the European 320d, and that might potentially cause some engine or particulate problems in the future.

Has RC tested their 328d chip program on a 328d concerning engine function parameters and emissions analysis?

thanks,
steve

Hello Steven,

We have a presence in the US, Russia and China and test vehicles locally in those markets. Emissions improve as your mpg improve. Less fuel in, fewer emissions out.

Thanks
Paul

I know several people with them in Orange County. Have you guys seen the quality of the box and wiring loom? Everyone that has one is very happy because the tunes use variables such as air/fuel, map sensor and boost sensor curves. The power and torque gain is amazing as well.

Just a recap of what the other options provide:

Hartge:
215 hp @ 4000 rpm
332 lb-ft @ 1850 rpm

AC Schnitzer USA (see attached map):
214 hp @ 4000 rpm
335 lb-ft @ 2200 rpm

I will be placing an order for the Pro2 in the next few days with dtmhaus. $30 is still $30 after all. Is there a time limit on this group buy offer SF_E60? We will need two more after my order AFAIK.

I'm not sure about time limit on this group buy, but I just started a new thread over here http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...0#post16066910

All they need now is 1 person! . I might drive my car 800 miles this weekend and next so I can install this tune in my car already.

I spoke with AC Schnitzer and their warranty begins at the first registration of the vehicle. It is a 2-year/60k-mile warranty, but that is from initial registration. I already have 10k miles on the vehicle, I don't see how/why a warranty can be applied in that fashion.

am I reading correctly that the RaceChips promises 358 Lb-Ft of Torque here? Looking at their Performance Chart, it appears that you'll need to be upward of 4k RPMs to get what they are promising.

Any of you guys/gals with the RaceChip have opinions on that delivery?

Think you're looking at the HP curve. The torque gains are available over the whole rev range, with peak torque at 2000 RPM

No lights or errors for me. I've also had mine in for about 400 miles and just changed the box to the second level setting - from e0 to d1 and still no lights or errors. The only kind of odd thing that I noticed (and it could be that I just never noticed this before I installed but I doubt it) is it does seem that sometimes the center dash onboard computer takes a little bit to boot up now. Not a big deal but has anyone else noticed this?
