Park button: poor placement choice?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I have hit the park button a couple of times when I didn't mean to, luckily both at very slow speeds or stopped. Once was at a light, the engine had ASSed off, and I was fooling the radio or heater controls, and I suppose I pressed the top of the shift lever by mistake. Confused me when the car wouldn't go!

The more I think about accidentally tapping it, the worse I think the decision was to put the Park button where it is so easy to engage.

Anyone else feel this way ? Or is it just me!

Cheers,
Andrew

I'm reaching directly over the lever, to the heater and radio. It's just that since I hav done it once or twice, I'm now aware of it.

Does anyone know what would happen of the Park button is pressed at speed?

It is electronically locked out and will not engage.

Didn't (would not) try it myself, but as far as I understand the top lever park button would only engage at lower than x speed (??) Anybody tried by accident ? What happens ? Does it (can it) damage transmission ?

+1 and when youre in motion the car knows it, when you press park nothing happens. It just says cannot put vehicle in part while moving.

still trying to wrap my head around this. the radio and heater controls are way up high. this makes no sense at all. i didn't even think you could hit the button without grabbing the lever.

Engaging neutral at speed merely accomplishes just that; it places the transmission in neutral and the car coasts. No drama whatsoever.
