Ceramic coating vs Wax & Sealant?
Just wondering how many people here prefer one or the other and what are your reasonings for what you chose? I know you tubers like Pan The Organizer chooses ceramic coating vs Obsessed Garage who prefers jescar power lock and Collinite liquid insulator.

I'd say 99.9% of opinions are purely subjective. A valid test would involve putting different coatings on different sections of a car and seeing what each section looks like six months later.

This is worth a read. It lays out the pros and cons of each. Personally, I decided to stick with traditional sealant versus ceramic after reading.

Interesting perspective. Granted they are a boutique manufacturer.

Great guide the Canadian one.
My 2 cars split this. The F06 is ceramic coated with ServFaces Ceramic Coat Ultima product (made in Germany) and the F32 one just received a NANO TECHNLOLOGY treatment 3 weeks ago. Comparing both cars after longer trips (both highway and land roads) in similar weather conditions, I found for example the insects/bug splatter much harder to remove on the nano-sealed one than on the ceramic one! This for me is already a main reason to go ceramic on the 2nd vehicle too next time as both cars do a lot of highway driving. Also the ceramic-coated car does look much more glossy and shiny (wax was not applied on top of the nano-sealed car) and is very smooth to the touch. Estetically I find the ceramic-coated one "cooler" though as the article says I could bring the F32 to shine as well with some WAX treatment applied over the nano sealing. I am not an expert in the sector but for me so far and thus based on MY own experience, comparing both cars and especially after multiple (washed BY HAND) washing experiences, ceramic-coating wins hands down. In price though the nano sealing cost 1/4 of the ceramic coating (I chose to do 5 layers). |

No doubt that ceramic coating last longest but it is also its weakness. Ceramic coating is scratch resistant but not scratch proof. After a year or two, there will be minor scratches and swirl marks on it. It is not easy to do paint correction on ceramic coated car. But I can easily do paint correction on regular clear coat protected by wax/sealant. It will looks much better than a 2 year old ceramic coated car with minor scratches.

I didn't see Menzerna Power Lock. I apply it in the spring and fall, the fall to add some added protection from winter road salt. I wash on average every two weeks, it always beads.

I've never heard of it, and i think he's trying to focus on popular coatings vs new products vs cheap offerings to see if it's worth the switch. But if you have a YT account you can comment and ask him to add it to the next round of tests.

Pans cars all look amazing so I followed his advice. I've been very happy with the results and will most likely continue with Ceramics on future cars. It's been a pleasure to work with.

All of the coatings he used in the 20 way video can either be found at Autozone or are constantly discussed on forums. I choose adams based off comments i've read and his review, but not seeing the same results he did. Then people asked for other brands so he threw in a few ringers in the 34 way comparison. And now I'm trying a ceramic coating that did well in his tests. I can't even find many details or reviews on power lock from a google search. But if you feel like he really missed something obvious, recommend it and he'll probably put it in his next round of tests. |

+1 on the Menzerna Power Lock (Jescar).
Amazing product. I was contemplating ceramic coat or similar coatings very seriously until I tried this stuff. I will likely use it forever on all of my cars. Im not exaggerating a bit, its my favorite car care product, period. |

Yeah I'm still not seeing it. For every 20 links to sites that sell it, I find one video or forum review. Even if you search it on here, half of the posts are you saying you use it and recommending it to people lol. I see youre a fan and all, but try searching for Adams, Chemical Guys, or Meguiars and see how many hits you get.

Damn it. My car is coated in Opti-Coat and refreshed with Reload. It hasn't failed yet, but now I'm thinking I should have went with CQuartz like many others.

Ill probably apply a coat every couple months and strip once per year, and clay as necessary. I clayed the whole car very meticulously before my first coat and would recommend this before using any sealant. |

Being able to strip it is key. When hard coatings do scratch, and they will, you have a major job correcting the finish. I don't strip the PL per se, I just buff the finish with Menzerna Stage 2 and Stage 3 in the spring. The Stage 2 takes off the old PL and gets rid of spider webbing, Stage 3 gets it looking good, PL keeps it that way. Doing a minor correction yearly makes it far less likely to eventually have to do a full blown correction with Stage 1 compound.

Maybe having to redo it every couple months is the expectation for quality sealants, but I wanted something that lasted closer to a year. Especially since I always park in a garage and rarely drive in rain. My CQuartz just came in the mail so going to try on the wife's car first and if I like it, i'll try the F32. |

Out of curiosity, is there a specific reason you chose Adam's over CarPro for the SiO2 sealant in conjunction with the coating?

For what its worth, I was a die hard user of both Adam's H2O Guard & Gloss as well as the Americana paste wax before trying Menzerna Power Lock.

I’m a sealant and wax person as well. I used Meguiars polish and then Adam’s sealant and wax and mine has lasted a decent amount of time. I do park my car in the garage and use a good soap and detail spray after washing. Outside of the car is still smooth as butter.
