2016 328i Timing Chain

My 2016 328i xDrive was built on 5/15. I know BMW resolved the timing chain issue before Jan of 2015, but my timing chain is a dark orange color. Isn't that the color of the faulty one?

No they all turn that color over time. They are only white when brand new.

Not necessarily. All plastic rails are white when new installed. However reaction with oil and high temp make both of them orange. Hopefully you have the new one,but I don't know how to identify them. Assembly date is also kind of questionable because multiple assembly plants managing multiple batches of engines don't gives me confidence. So I opted for 2017 B46 engine, and now fingers crossed for my wife's 2014... for sure the TC of concern.

We called the dealer and they said it was uneffected AND the chain is rock solid right so who knows. Let's hope!

Kies just put out a new video about warranty for this issue. Depending on your state SULEV cars can be covered for up to 150k miles. Worth checking into.

SULEV extended warranties only cover emission control components, so the timing chain and associated parts wouldn't qualify.
