Better Quality Diesel??

I used my first tank of Shell Nitro+ Diesel the other day & noticed any improvement from the usual Tesco Diesel i use so was interested in other peoples thoughts / experiances on types of Diesel, is Shell Nitro+ any good? How's BP's equivellent compare??

Shell garages seem few & far between where I live

I've heard a few people have filled up with premium and the BMW 2.0d clatter has reduced.

I use BP Ultimate Diesel only if possible, that's what the handbook recommends.

Always use Shell Nitro Plus diesel.Marked improvement over standard diesel, mpg up,response from engine greater and engine emits less black residue on exhaust tailpipes.

Currently I believe shell v power diesel is the only diesel that's produced using gas to liquid technology and so in theory is cleaner and more 'pure' although it doesn't claim to have a higher cetane rating than normal diesel (which BP Ultimate does). Either are likely to give mild benefits over standard diesel but the benefits would be for different reasons.

I used to do every third tank or so with bp ultimate.

It has additional detergent to help clean away deposits etc. I don't believe it delivers any additional power etc, like higher Ron petrol does...?

Have only filled up my 335d with Shell Nitro+ or BP Ultimate since new. (7k miles).

Drove it the other week and thought, engine seems rough and noisier, only to subsequently find out he GF had stuck in normal supermarket diseasel.

Definitely noticeable from my view even though I work in the oil industry and know the differences aren't that great.

I've always used brand diesel, because I don't know where re supermarkets source their fuel or whether it's just the cheapest they can buy.

I now use Shell V Power diesel all the time, along with Millers Oil additive. Mpg is up slightly and engine refinement is improved which was the main reason for switching. The straight six is generally great but now even better.

1 in 4 tanks kept 4 pot clatter down in my E90 20d.
I've kept my 6 pot F30 30d on BP Ultimate, I do a 12 mile commute and want to avoid any potential DPF issues.
Though, I got funnelled into the standard pup once in France, and the car felt a bit slower responding and rougher with only about 40% standard in the tank...
It's a sweet running diesel on BP Ultimate and has averaged more than 44mpg over 15k. Over 50mpg on longer runs.

I use V Power Nitro +. My 2 nearest stations are Shell and normally equal cheapest.

Not really sure if it's any better, as the way the car drives is very subjective.
I did think my E90 335d felt rougher and noisier on supermarket diesel, but once you start concentrating, you hear all sorts of things!!

I definitely noticed the improved mpg using V Power petrol in my Audi S4. I reckon it just about broke even - the added mpg vs the extra cost, but that was higher RON

I just hope all the hype over the added detergents is right and my engine is all nice and clean!!

In the process of doing a very unscientific experiment on fuel quality myself

Have always used sainsburys diesel as it's the cheapest plus often get discount vouchers of up to 10ppl. Then tried adding bp ultimate for a quarter tank for a few fill ups before going back to sainsburys only fuel. Car felt rough as nails

Just filled up with shell fuel save and am doing some mpg tests. To date can report mpg is the same however speed restrictions have been lifted so am cruising at high speed as opposed to 55mph and car feels smoother.

Will try nitro + next.

Like I said not scientific as too many variables but man logic.

In my also unscientific, using BP fuel I managed to knock nearly 30 minutes off my Watford to Wolverhampton time

Just proves how good it, gives a great inverse proportionality of fuel to time.

By that logic using BP ultimate nitro + I should be able to arrive before I leave

Yep that should be the case

Admittedly in order to get the best from the fuel, you need to be a good bit over 2k revs and in 8th gear..

Mine is definitely smoother using BP Ultimate but the current cost difference is over 20p a litre so back to normal for now..........

I haven't been impressed at all with Nitro+
