My security is called insurance…it’s not an exotic or special limited production numbers car…it’s a production BMW, so if it’s stolen I’d gladly take a payout from the insurance company.

Yeah, but how many of them are within a thousand miles of Great Britain? Still, most cars are stolen for their parts, as the parts are more valuable than the assembled car. That's why chop shops exist. It's also why the #1 stolen car in the US is the Honda Accord. There are lots of Accords on the road, which means lots of accidents involve Accords, making for a huge used Accord parts market.

My F30 has keyless entry and I'm planning on buying a keyles protector (https://www.keylessprotector.nl/ website is in Dutch, sorry). It's a thingy that clips on to the battery inside the keyfob. It has a motion detector and disables the battery after a couple minutes of the keyfob not having moved. As soon as you pick it up it allows current to flow through the battery again so you can just use it as usual.
Lots of keyless entry cars are stolen here in Europe using the relay attack so I think this is a great way to prevent that |

From what I understand the hardware some thieves are using nowadays is so sensitive, the signal from the keyfob can be picked up from several hundred meters away. Simply not storing your key next to an exterior wall isn't gonna cut it anymore I think. Also don't feel like carrying arround a tin box wherever I go, just in case I would have to park on the street.
However I agree that € 155 is a lot of money and for home use only a tin box would do just fine |
