What coating did you have applied?
I apply CarPro's CQuartz UK myself to my own vehicles and really like it. The real magic to any work is the polishing of the paint. If the paint isn't perfected and polished out nicely, the coating won't look good.

The paint correction is key. If the car was new, I may attempt this myself, but once you get a little bit of "wear" on it, having it professionally corrected first gives stellar results!

every place is different, the cost is going to be how much paint correction is needed before the ceramic is applied. i can't remember if it was 12 or 14 hours of paint correction on my car. ouch. stupid sapphire black metallic. lol

The price of the product the detailer uses will vary too. Coatings like CQuartz UK, Gtechniq CSL or Exo, and some of the others available to consumers aren't too bad and will run about $701~$100 for a bottle. However there are some which are only available to authorized installers which I'm sure run more and those costs will be passed along to the customer.

Well said. Paint correction is indeed the key and the cost will vary depending on the paint condition. Reputable shop will be entirely upfront about this process.

2 year old car neglected by old lady (only had 3800 miles on it)
After 14 hrs of paint correction and a ceramic coat As busy as my detailer is, I’m glad he squeezed my car in. He’s booked 8 months out and with plenty of high end cars. My car was probably the cheapest on the lot. |

I had my wife’s 2014 Traverse completely corrected and ceramic coated for about $1200. That was a fair price to me considering the amount of time for the labor/size of the vehicle. I like the ceramic coating technology but won’t put it on my 2016 435i because I like doing the correcting/polishing, sealing every so often. It’s therapeutic to me. Lol!

I question how much of that result is the coating and how much is the correction. In any event I'm done with the ceramic craze, the result of driving past a self service car wash yesterday. They had a large sign out front that advertised 'Ceramic Coating!' It's become a meaningless term.

His custom stuff is scheduled way out. I’m on permanent nights and he’s there late at night working. He gets extra patrols since he takes care of us on the side. We see the cars going in to his shop. He’s busy. His detailing section is about a month out. People aren’t going to him for detailing. They’re going there doing custom stuff. He’s also doing something with the local tesla place. He’s always got teslas in. He did 650ib’s vette last year. No clue who 650ib is. Lol. Sadly he got too big and moved out of our city to someplace bigger.
This was some of the stuff he’s working on when I went to pick up my car. Last edited by chowser51; 11-04-2021 at 08:20 AM.. Reason: Pic |

From my experience a good paint correction will get you to a 95% solution. The wax/sealant/coating only adds the fine boost in gloss. It's the icing on the cake. The whole "ceramic" thing is being overused/misused across the industry. Companies are adding SiO2 in almost everything. The difference is the ammount, but the marketing department doesn't care. I've stopped paying attention to titles and names. I still am a huge fan of the high-solids coatings you get in the little glass bottles (i.e. CarPro CQuartz UK) and will keep using them regardless of the hype. I used them long before the craze broke out. Just brace yourself for the Graphene wave coming....
