Anyway, why has BMW never competed with Audi’s RS4 and RS6 Avants? I don’t get it?!
I believe part of the problem is BMW had been supplying xDrive with softer/higher suspensions in other markets, including previous model generations, Launching in the UK (for the all weather bias), many M-sport drivers got quite a shock. They'd not been used to the different driving dynamics of SE models.

I suppose that poses the real question, how many have driven RWD SE models and compared the drive with xDrive, to see where the real differences lay?
It's what you get used to, and not knowing any better. Once you know what can be achieved and then you can't get it, it's known as relative depravation. It's about time BMW got the xdrive handling thing sorted, although it seems the new M5 is showing promise.

M3 Touring, anyone?

Some cars just look better as an estate IMO F30 is one of them, but I'm probably bias as I find the practicality of the F31 is, taking all other issues aside, is the icing on the cake. The flat roof line also makes the car feel much bigger internally, which is nice when it's full up with gear & folk.

F31 xDrive ride is better than the ride on an F11 mSport.

80% of the time, good ride is better than average handling...

Totally agree! I’ve never looked at a 3 saloon and been that impressed apart from the odd M3, but even they have to be in the right colour/trim/wheels. Just imagine how good an M3 Touring would look!

A bit bigger, but Prince Harry is selling his RS6 Avant, which looks pretty good!

They call that form over function.... so a good looking xdrive F31 is better than an average looking xdrive F30? Right....

Sorry I had drifted off the original subject, trying to be a wee bit funny … I failed miserably, as you missed my innuendo entirely

That's an outrageous lie put about by LobB who, I may have mentioned, still owes me a pound

The M4 is my top dog for sure. It was the right colour (yellow), it had the right suspension (RS), forged wheels, silly exhaust and 500hp. It was a hooligan and lots of fun, even in my unskilled hands. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it though.

Prior to that though I had a soft spot for the R56 MINI we built for the 2008 Motor Show. That had RS suspension too, unlike the F56 which only got springs, and it had a manual box which I like. It was more comfortable than a standard MINI and you could throw it around without worrying about your licence too much.

Our M135i was also great, and probably the one I'd buy with my own money. Fast enough, agile enough, not too big, and only really needed the sports suspension package to tame it. We tried it with the RS too, which EVO magazine loved, but I didn't really need it.

I recognise KyleSku bridge, is the third one Applecross? The mountain rings a bell but it's a while since I went west coast.... I'm assuming you did the NC500

If you ever go down Strathnaver keep an eye out for an EB F31, you can have a cuppa anytime

Yes, heading for Applecross. The day after picking up the 330d. Decent run of over 200 miles with a varied work load, good for bedding in all the parts.

From the Kyle of Lochalsh to Durness, my favourite part of Scotland. We hope to spend a few days 'touring' in September, once the holiday rush and traffic eases off.

I like the bit along the top corner coast, Ullapool, Cape Wrath and around to Bettyhill, around 250 miles. Some seriously nice roads and some stunning views.
Just watch out for camera vans nowadays, the popularity of the NC500 has made plod realise he can stuff his piggy bank from tourists

Me too (as we've experienced what it can do on track, in the pissing rain, in the hands of a pro) but I was staying on topic
