Mewant Steering Wheel Cover

Hello all, just wanted to share my experience with the Mewant steering wheel covers that have been popping up lately.

My M-sport wheel was fading badly on top so I decided to try a $60 Mewant cover before replacing the wheel. I installed mine over the weekend and although it's not perfect, I think this is the best bang for the buck interior mod you can do!

I went with the alcantara sides, leather top/bottom and the blue center-stripe. The fitment was perfect, the materials feel high quality and the installation process was fairly straight-forward. Once properly tucked the cover looks practically OEM, plus the added thickness is awesome. There are a few areas where I pulled the stitching a bit too tight and the leather is slightly wrinkled, but it wasn't bad enough to persuade me to re-do it.

I am very happy with the overall experience and would recommend this mod to anyone looking to replace their entire wheel, but wants a more cost-effective option.

That actually looks really good & it appears you did a decent job on the lacing

Those minor wrinkles will prolly come out after setting in a hot car under the sun

Definitely cheaper than a new wheel

Gotta love those Asian company names 'Me Want'

I don't see a cover listed on their website for 2013 F30 335i. Am I just missing it?

I believe all F30 M-Sport wheels are the same. Same for the regular sport lines.

I got my cover off E-Bay by the way. They were having one of those 15% off days.

You can get these covers from E-Bay, Amazon and Aliexpress, I had just found the best price to be through E-Bay.

I did not remove the wheel and I did not use the double stick tape. If installed correctly the tape isn't necessary and it actually makes it much easier to adjust as you are stitching.

Why do you have an Alpina badge?

I recently re-stitched mine to smooth it out a bit. On the non M-Sport wheel, there are a couple spots where the double stick tape helps keep it flush and tight.

I took my wheel off, both when I first did it last year, and again last week when I decided to restitch it. I feel like it makes it easier to handle, plus it makes tucking the edges easier by taking off the trim pieces.

Definitely agree that it's a great cheap mod. I originally wanted the alcantara M Performance steering wheel with the flat bottom, but at over $700, the $50 I spent on the wrap is good enough and the kit is solid, including everything you need.

The first time I did it, it took about 4 hours from wheel off to wheel back on. As someone mentioned, AliExpress is a bit cheaper.

Keep us posted on how that holds up. I think you'll find some slack slipping when turning the wheel. You may also get some ripples.

What spot, specifically, would you recommend using the tape? What is the part number for your cover? Looks great!

Specifically at the spokes at 9 & 3 o'clock, the slight concavity can make the wrap not sit flush. However, I put tape mostly all around the upper rim. I didn't the first time around and found it twists fairly easily. The double stick tape just makes it feel much more secure.

There is definitely no slippage on my cover. Since you are creating almost a 100% contact area with the cover and dead-ending the stitching at the spokes, there is nowhere for the cover to go.

I did make a few micro-adjustments to the stitching in some locations, but I had to squeeze really tight and twist the cover several times to get it to budge.

I don't think it's going anywhere, but I will monitor over the next few weeks.

Yeah, mine seemed quite secure at first as well. The material will likely stretch and bit and "break in" over time, which I think is what happened with mine. It wasn't bad by any means. There wasn't any lateral movement, just a slight ability to twist the cover on the wheel, particularly at the top of the wheel where it's farthest from the spokes and at the thumb bolsters.

I agree with what JH_f30 said. Since you didn't use any tape you're going to notice a lot more play around the wheel.

I'm not talking counter or clockwise around the wheel but rather forwards and backwards-twisting motion. I installed the same way you did (there is no other proper way to fit this cover)but with tape and there still is some minimal play.

My advice is to buy stronger grade double sided tape and skip the crap included with the kit. That way you don't have to rethread-a major pain!

For you guys with the suede, how is it holding up? How long have you had it? Cheaper stuff that isn't alcantara/ultrasuede brand tend to fade easily. I'm wanting to get one of these for my e90 steering wheel. I want to get suede on parts of the steering wheel, just worried about quality. I feel more confident in the leather but that suede would match my shift boot/ebrake boot and steering wheel trim.

Love it. Did you had to remove the airbag and plastic covers? If so can you provide the steps?

So I just installed the cover with a red stripe, perf leather top and bottom with suede on the sides, tri color stitching. I think the stitching (particularly with the light blue thread they include) matches the M stripes perfectly. Took about 4 hrs total. The site won’t let me add pics but it turned out awesome, with no wrinkles. The added thickness is awesome.

The biggest question I had was whether I’d retain the heated wheel. Well, I did. It just takes a bit longer to heat up, and it doesn’t get hot like it did before; just warm, which I personally prefer anyway. I didn’t use the tape, and that probably contributed to the heat coming through a bit more than others may have found. The perforated leather also has an impact I’m sure, but the suede on the sides heats up the quickest. For those of you who have the patience and don’t want to spend $700 on a new wheel, this is a killer option.

I didn’t remove the plastic covers. I took the airbag out only to install the m performance cf trim on the wheel, but it wasn’t necessary to do the cover at all.
