Big brother dash cam is watching you!
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-new...tly-to-police?
Seems a very obvious idea, with some obvious benefits. However I am interested to see what the police will do with it exactly... we all see lots of driving offences every day, but what level of offence is going to be worth the police following up I wonder? Just crashes and outright dangerous driving, or are we going have every middle -lane hogger and questionable lane change submitted. Drawing the line will be the tough decision I suppose. And how much evidence is required to convict?

Who will be employed to sift through the countless hours of retards sending 'Im offended by someones driving' footage? Hopefully not police officers because thats not exactly the best way to utilise them.
As you say, crashes and very obvious dangerous driving may be useful but it may not have the 'whole picture' or may have been edited out of context. |

I’m afraid I don’t agree with it at all. Policing is a job for the police and the police only. What’s to stop somebody running a campaign against a particular person they dislike. Let’s face it are we all perfect drivers all the time? So given time and an appetite to do so I’m sure there is scope for abuse.

Pointless for everyday events - it'll just encourage vigilante behaviour and tittle tattle.
For serious RTAs and the like, it could be useful.

It will be swamped with helmets sending in helmet cam footage.
Every camera wearing Lycra star will see it as the place to send their footage. |

I shared some footage with the Met Pol site at the back end of last year. They encourage you to share an online link so I put it on my one drive. I had a response after 20 days saying they were unable to watch it.
The system may have a potential for abuse though. I mean yes someone might be caught on cam driving dangerously but where is the other part? That part where a moped gang impersonated the Police so the driver shot off like a bat out of hell. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crim...-a3876826.html The footage might help and be straightforward in some cases but in others possibly witnesses will be required or appealed for. I think some need to be careful and not go crazy uploading because they could potentially identify themselves. In some ways this system is a step in the right direction provided it is done properly. Now if the Met can set up Skype so I didn't have to travel to my station an hour away to make a statement and wait another hour to do it. |

Excellent.
Now our already stretched police service will be inundated by dashcam warrior footage from Malcom, 57 who lives in his mum's spare room and saw someone doing 31 in a 30 (according to his eBay dashcam which has never been calibrated for speed in it's life) |

The 45mph (in a 60 limit) brigade now dominate the roads round these parts. The other night when returning home I came up behind three of the fu... errr people, and in each case overtook safely & legally but that didn't stop two of them flashing me like crazy as soon as I overtook, as if to say "you hooligan - everyone knows the national speed limit on single lane roads is 45!". Doubtless these are the sorts of people who would be making copious use of the portal.
