You did great man!
Would you mind to list all the specific SMD's and amount for the referring place where installed, that would be high appreciated.

Make sure that circuits aren't crossed with new solder or that all circuits are completed. I'm guessing some solder may be shorting something out.

But i respect that people have different opinions and its cool that you dare walk your own path!
Well, I didn't enjoy it a lot to be honest, because everything was so small! :P

But I like to work on this stuff yes, all of my previous cars had something very specific which was I created. At my previous car I bought a diffusor which was slightly different then what I wanted, so I cut pieces off, and used fiberglass and fillers to adjust and shape it perfectly. In another car I build a complete high-end sound system and adjusted a lot. I'm a perfectionist, so I'll work on just about anything, not scared to discover new stuff, and take things apart. It needs to work and look like high-end OEM, so I spend a lot of time on perfecting the details.

Another thing I'm annoyed about is the screen and navigation, also looks outdated/low-res, even though I have the big screen and prof. navigation with live traffic. So I want to upgrade that to an Android system soon. Then I'm done with interior for now, and will move to the outside.

OMG you're awesome! Thank you for the list! I very much like the over all look of your LED changes. It looks so much better than a bunch of amber lights everywhere. I plan on making some LED changes as well beyond the standard radio/ambient lighting eventually so this will definitely come in handy. If I could give you more than 1 "appreciate" I would lol.

Holy balls these 0805 LED's are super tiny! Does a regular soldering iron work with these things? I've soldered things before and I'm comfortable doing so, but I've never work with such small components lol.

You're welcome! I was looking for a list too, no one made it, and you can't make it until you get everything apart. That's why I worked on this list, and I hope anyone reading this has some good use out of it!

I guess you didn't see the 0603 leds in the steering wheel those are the tiniest ever! It is doable if you have the sharpest soldering tip, and a stable hand. You need to melt some wire on the pads and the led itself, and then positioning them perfectly, and heating up both ends. That should do the job, but I did melt away some leds while doing it, so be sure to have extras laying around

Yeah that was my thinking but I can't see anything to cause the issue. I've ordered a second hand button for £15 just incase I can't get it sorted.

My blue/white replacement LED's for the front/rear door panels and footwell finally came in from benzinfabrik.com yay!

OMG you should see the box it's destroyed and wet and has some other liquid on it it's disgusting. It seems like it was dropped outside when being loaded on a truck and was left outside for who knows how long. After 3 weeks it finally hit New Jersey (from tracking) so I believe it arrived at the New Jersey international hub and was lost and finally scanned. I'm amazed the products are still inside the box and undamaged honestly. I'll post some pics of the box later lol.

Now to install these bad boys! I'll post pics when it gets dark after I get them installed hopefully it goes smoothly and I can get it done today.

Well I got the 2 front door panels and 2 footwell LED's replaced. I ran out of sun light and couldn't finish installing the 2 rear panel LED's so will have to finish up tomorrow. I also have replacement LED's for the radio trim but no promises on how that's going to go lol that LED is TINY. I got extras though It's looking super awesome so far!

It was weird and kinda scary, after I put the passenger door panel back on after upgrading the LED module the top of the door panel was getting hot not a little warmth from sun contact but like an electrical type of hot. I disconnected the battery and took the door panel off so I could see what was heating up (thought maybe something was shorting out) but it stopped thankfully. I put the door panel back on gently and it's been fine since. Weird! After all that my PDC stopped working and my car was throwing all kinds of errors in Bimmerlink. I cleared all the errors and went for a drive and my PDC started working again. I think it was from the battery being disconnected and various systems have to initialize and it's not an instant type of thing.

Highly appreciated

But a (maybe silly) question for converting the LED types:

I got installed into my doors for the ambient light type 5630/5050 modules (smaller black ones) and into the foot well type 2016 (bigger white ones); you could find pictures of the sealed bags at first page of this thread.
How to find out why yours are designated as 1206 for the doors and 3528 for the footwell?
According to some pictures they look complete different to mine

I'm not an electrician so I can't provide a very clear answer for you. But I do know that different types of LEDs work, even if they stick out a bit from the pads where they need to be soldered. The 1206 LEDs are slightly bigger than the original ones, but the hitarea of the LEDs do match the pads on the PCB board. The ones from Benzinfabrik are totally different types (I have those too btw), and are much more brighter than the 1206 I got.

For example the "halo" on the iDrive originally has round LEDs which exactly fit in the holes of the PCB board. I couldn't find those, so I tried it with the 1206 LEDs. Those also worked perfectly fine, even though they have a rectangular shape. The brightness was better, the soldering was sturdy.

It's trial and error, I had certain type of LEDs lying around, and I read on other forums that they used the 1206 type. That's why I went for it. Hope this answers your question a bit

Not tacky

Definitely doesn't look tacky, as long as you invest the time in it to make it look professional. Can't really go wrong from there.

I attempted to replace the LED's in my radio trim but without much success. I got it all taken apart but these things are too tiny to handle and my soldering skills aren't up to par, with something this small at least.

I'm going to go to an electronics repair shop and ask them to do it for me. This shoots down the possibility of changing out the other LED's in my car but oh well. Soldering super tiny components isn't my forte apparently lol. I tip my hat to you guys that managed to do this successfully!

Here are the pictures after the ambient lighting was upgraded to blue. My phone's camera distorted these a bit but you get the idea. I love the new look! Ignore the front trim that's still removed lol.

Nice! That so bright I replaced the original LEDs with the new ones, but they still don't light up this much. So I also ordered from benzinfabrik and got them already, but still didn't manage to install them.
I also emailed them with the question if they are planning to make the LED parts for the radio trim, and their answer was YES! They are launching these LEDs in february some time. So if I were you, let it go for now, and order those when they are online. I am going to do the same, because also with the radio trim they don't light up that much.

Thanks! Indeed they are super bright lol. I may have to delink them from the dash lights and turn them down a bit but will have to do some night driving and see how it goes.

That's great news that Benzinfabrik is going to offer the radio trim replacement LED board soon. Yeah I should just wait to order from them. That's right around the corner too! They definitely offers a great product. Sure beats the Chinese junk you see on Alibaba!

Yeah, those are really good news and then I would wait until they release the Radio trim LED's. Do we have a DIY somewhere how to remove the Radio/Climate trim from the Panel? Hadnt done this before and wouldnt break the small holders.
