I am a bit confused! I just picked up my 2015 335i xdrive msport with mppk. I was expecting blue calipers or some Color signifying that they are "performance" brakes, but mine are unfinished grey with bmw stamped on the front & the back! What is the easiest way to tell the difference between base & m performance brakes? Sounds like some are saying bmw stopped finishing the calipers in nice colours & got lazy!

I think your rotor size would tell you if you had the upgraded brakes. A larger rotor size for msport brakes, along with bigger calipers, and a larger rotor size for mperformance brakes, along with being dimpled and sloted. Did you order M-Peformance or M-Sport Brakes?

i believe some people are confusing the terms. Just because you car is an "M Sport Line" does not mean you have "M Sport Brakes". Must understand this but it is clear others dont.

Doesn't the 335 have the non-fixed rear caliper, meaning that the Msport is different? Not that it's worth the "upgrade", since most of your braking is at the front anyway.

Well, this is my first BMW & I am still learning. It's just that I was looking @ a 2013 used with the same pkg equivalent & it had blue m sport calipers. Kind of weird because I have every package available! Lol. I have m performance package w/Z5Y & m performance 2 as well as executive & premium; Canadian version. They changed the way the packages are offered after 2013 models i believe just to confuse us more.
Thanks for the input |

Those are not M-sport brakes. They're the regular 335i brakes. Not a big deal, still more than enough for most uses.

That is correct. Bring this up to your dealer and possibly check to see if any on the lot have the blue brakes. They may have to retro them in for you. That, or they didn't order the M Perf Pack on your car. I would check the window sticker as well.

Corrected post:
My 2013 335i Msport pkg brakes, painted gray, have the 4 pot Brembo calipers front, and 1 pot rear. LCI 2016 340i Msport on the build site look to have the same front and rear calipers as Msport except they are gray not blue. But, that could be wrong too. Grey Calipers on 335i has 340mm disc in front with 4 Piston caliper 330mm disc in rear with 1 Piston caliper Blue calipers on 335i has 370mm disc in front with 4 Piston caliper 345mm disc in rear with 2 Piston caliper I've never heard of gray calipers fitting on 370/345 discs. Just measure your front and rear disc diameter to verify. (Edit: Just read above that sometimes they come in grey. Probably some monday production or painters on strike. However Rotor Diameter is a safe indicator) Last edited by oceanview; 07-28-2015 at 07:25 AM.. |

In Canada, we've had the blue painted calipers since 2013 (as an option). I think in the US, it was only available from 2014 onwards.
