Anyone running the vtt breather? Think it's necessary on our platform? Thanks

Forgive my ignorance, but I've never seen these before. What is it supposed to do? And anyone who has it, any reviews?

I had one on my last engine for a bit. Helped reduce burning oil from a bent rod that took awhile to let go. To that effect, I think more people use it as a band-aid than an actual solution to a problem.
