They’re finally here! 718 GT4 and Spyder revealed
Looks like the official details are finally out:
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...e-convertible/ Take my damn money! Especially love the Spyder...last of a dying breed, not many NA 6 manual drop-tops out there anymore. Give me that screaming flat 6 with no top. Only disappointment is they don’t seem to push the performance envelope very far beyond the 981. I think many were expecting a 9k redline. If anything it could help preserve 981 values a bit as they seemed to be in free fall as folks were expecting the 718 to be more of a baby-GT3. Net net I still think this will be THE car to have south of $100k (even though we all know the options will push average MSRP well over $100k).

I could see it happening with the next gen Cayman.
For the record, it's NOT the GT3 engine. People were jumping onto that rumor train for a while (I recall even getting into a debate about it on this board at some point...) but alas it's not true. Regardless it'll be an exceptional engine and great car. It uses the current flat 6 engines from the 911 lineup but they've removed the turbos and increased displacement. "Only" revs to 8k.

Spyder starts at $97k, gt4 at $100k. Add options and they will be $120-140k easy. 991.1 GT3 in the $105-120k range with warranty until 2024 is a way better value IMO.

Disappointing weight. 150 pounds more than a much larger GT3?

Good grief what a gorgeous car. Like others have posted, hopefully this will wreck the price of the former gen so plebs like me can get one.

I've been lookin at the GT4 for a few months now; even drove one. I'm definitely gonna find a way to drive this before I decide. If the "long gearing" issue is fixed and the car is more an high Rev engine, I'd be sold.

I'd love to see the numbers with the same tires and same driver just to see how much better the 982 vs 981 is around the ring. That being said, I'd still rather save $30-40K and just buy a slightly used 981 version. Although if money was no object I'd take the new one for sure. |

for sure though on everything else. can't wait for the reviewers to get there hands on them. maybe the advertised hp will be close to what the car is actually putting down at the tire. Porsche loves to sandbag there numbers.

The theory is that this is somewhat driven by the fact regulations now require cars stated-weight to be based on the base options. Meaning, Porsche can't option bucket seats, carbon breaks, etc. and then put it on the scales. Not sure how much truth that holds but it seems like a porker especially compared to the 981 GT4.
Curious to see some of the real-world weights once people get these in their hands/press cars etc.
