Q7 has just been facelifted so there are new prefacelift old 272ps models knocking around for silly money. The X5 is the better car though.

I’m looking in the 16/17 year range so not the new ones. I believe the new x5 get rave reviews but the older ones seem to be pretty split between the q7 and x5. I would love an xc90 just not sure about long term reliability want to keep the car as a family wagon for a good 5 plus years. If the misses takes this hopefully I can get something fun in a couple of years when we have saved again.

I don't how they did it but Audi made the Q7 look like a fat estate and completely missed that muscular SUV style, which for me isn't a good look.

I think with the black exterior trim and sq7 wheels it looks awesome. Was the more comfortable of the two by far.

On autotrader they all seems to be well above the 21k based on the spec I have
The waters are always a bit muddied when you part-ex to a dealer though; they can quote all sorts of attractive numbers for your car but IMO it's the cost to change that matters in that scenario. However, if you're confident you've negotiated them down to a competitive cash price on the X5 and they've said they'll go to £23k for yours as well that sounds a good deal to me!

In terms of what's on Autotrader, I'm not seeing many 2017 340i saloons listed; a couple of 17 plates at low £20k's, one 67 plate at £25k and another 67 plate at joke money (£28.5k!). However, these are all advertised prices in dealers and even if the cars are sold for that money to be realistic a private sale will more than likely be at least a couple of thousand pounds less....
This^^
It's all about what you are prepared to pay in terms of the overall cost to exchange with a part ex. Decide that in advance and have the answer in your head before they ask you . How the dealer gets there shouldn't worry you. He'll make his money at one end of the part ex - or both.

I sold my hi-spec 30 month old 340i in May '19...

On my experience... You will get trade-in bids in the region of £14/15k... Maybe even less against a pre-owned vehicle (as opposed to a new vehicle, where there seems more wriggle room)... Much less than WBAC...

You can try sites like Tootle to sell to the trade separately from a trade-in... I did this, got good bids from specialist BMW dealer, and sold to one of them.. For me, I preferred this to trying for a private sale... and I could focus on the new car deal without a trade-in complication..

Trade-in estimates from sites like carwow, etc, were over optimistic...

Just a few thoughts...

I think it was a good idea - however it obviously wasn't a very profitable one!
