Loud Squeaking from M Brakes, dealer says BMW Corp says its normal...

UPDATE - See video below I took today:

So I have a '14 335i with the M Brakes and I've had to take my car in twice already for extremely loud embarrassing squeaking every time I come to a stop...

First time I took it to the dealer, the squeaking came back within a month so I decided to go to a different dealer since the first one had bad service as well...

Second Dealer, as soon as I drove off the service center, it was squeaking badly even though the said they had done whatever they could...

Service Guy told me that BMW Corporate was aware of this and wouldn't allow them to do much about it other than to the basic clean the brakes and rotors service...

Who's had this issue too? Can we all write a petition and send it off to Corp?

How does a 50-60k luxury car make these ridiculous noises when a $500 Ford from 20 years ago doesn't????

P.S. I will post a video when I get a chance...

High-performance breaks squeak, especially when they are cold. Just like high-performance engines make more noise than smaller engines.

Do a search, this has been discussed to death

I had it on my 135 msport. It was so loud at every stop. I took it in 3 times and it was still there so they asked and were granted permission to do brand new brakes and the problem was gone. It is not normal. Be persistent and keep bugging them. Good luck

Dealer fixed it by replacing pads and rotors but I suspect that it will come back in the near future. Many, many people have complained about this for the M Sport brakes. I'd rather have noisy brakes than have ones that stop less.

This is normal squeaking for those brakes/pads:

There was also a SIB out awhile back on noisy rear brakes where some brackets for the calipers needed replacing. I have "standard" brakes (the blue M-brakes weren't available when I bought my car), and the replacement of those brackets fixed my issue.

There are aftermarket pads that might help the situation somewhat, along with different rotors (slotted, etc.). Also, there used to be a sticky compound you could apply to the piston side of the brake pads that would keep them from vibrating when the brakes are lightly applied. This worked for me in other vehicles, although it may or may not help in this situation.

Squeaky pads are very common in many different cars.

The greatest and best success I've ever had is to get a brake pad set with "shims", they may also be called "anti-vibration/rattle" pads.

These pads/shims help to quell the onset of squeal or vibration, and they work nicely too.

If you get a pad set with the shims/pads included, then do install them and follow the directions. If the pad set doesn't have them, then get a stand alone shim set that will fit your pad.
Many, if not most, of the kits include a high temp grease. This grease gets smeared onto the OUTSIDE of the shim, the side that is AWAY from the pad. This the true anti vibe/squeal ingredient as it stops the repetitive oscillation that can set in and create the squeal.

If you can't find shims to fit your brake pad, there is still one trick left that has worked for me in the past. BUT, you have to be REALLY REALLY careful when doing the install, so that you do NOT get any grease on the working side of the brake pad of the rotor.
This technique/trick requires some of the same type of high temp grease. It's easy to find in an auto parts store.
When assembling the pad simply put a coat of the high temp grease on the back side of the pad. The grease coating will help decrease the squeal if not remove it completely.
Just do NOT get any grease on the disc or the working side of the pad.

So you don't mind driving people around who think your car is a POS even though its a newer BMW luxury car??

I'm assuming SIB means something related to a service bulletin? Do you know where I can find that by any chance please?

Thanks for the info, I'll keep it as last resort since I really feel that BMW should be the one fixing this, the car has less than 15k miles on it and already sounding like a POS....

Not to beat a dead horse but yeah M brakes squeak.

Just slam on them really hard in a safe area to clear them every now and then.

How is this acceptable? I know many cars that have had Brembo brakes from the factory that did not have this issue, why is that ok in BMWs world?

Generally speaking and to my experience having had several M3's w M brakes you're being too soft on your brakes. Get on them. Go hard every now and then. If you're engine braking or feathery with your braking 90% of the time they will squeal like a pig. Use them like they are M brakes!

Another data point: 31k on the clock, no squeaking. Even in cold weather.

Drive that car hard, stomp on that brake pedal. Get those pads and rotors up to operating temperatures.

Or, go buy a Prius.

I had the same issue with the M brakes, the noise got too loud and I decided to take it to the dealer. I didn't want to hear that "it was a normal thing with the M brakes".
what they ended up doing was to round off the edge of the all of the pads. I forgot what the procedure is called, but it fixed the problem 100%. its been over a month and the brakes are as silent as they should be.
the issue with the pads is that brake dust builds up on the sharp edges of the pads and that's the cause of all of the noise.
FYI:
I did the slamming on the brakes at high speed (in a safe area) and the noise stopped for a few days. Not the proper solution in my case.

Yes - Service Information Bulletin, I think. I'm not sure at all where you'd find those, other than doing something like a Google Search or asking your dealership's service dept. This particular one came out in early 2014. It may or may not apply to your build date, though, but it was fixed for my car under that SIB as warranty work.

I have the MSport Brakes, and mine don't squeak. only when I have just washed 'em. And that isn't very loud.
