328d High Oil temps
Hello
Before I go and spend the money, does anyone know if high oil temps can be because the water pump or thermostat are going out? or can it be another issue please help if you ran into this problem thank you in advance. |

Can you describe a little more as to what is going on? We need a lot more info.
Also why do you believe your oil temps are so high? If your oil temp is high, what is your coolant temp like?

Yesterday the oil temp needle reach the 3/4 line (250-260F) and prompt a warning. The car was recently leaking water from the Pipe Union on the water pump. I fixed that and bled the cooling system. I have no existing leaks anymore. Drove the car on 90 degree weather through LA traffic, the temp went up and kicked in the fans for the oil cooler.
Regarding the coolant temp, I am not able to check unless I have an OBD2 scanner. |

Okay I will give that a try. Im guessing if my coolant temps are high, I'm having some water pump or thermostat issues.

Out of curiosity, what was the exact process you used to bleed the system?

I wonder if there is an air pocket somewhere in the system that is causing the temps to go up. The coolant system is supposed to be vacuum filled and I'm not sure the procedure you used would be an acceptable alternative.

capt_slow - Correct on the mechanical driven water pump. You will need to bleed the old fashioned way with getting things up to temp and refill OR vacuum fill things to circumvent that process.

I'd also recommend setting the heater fan on max heat while refilling. You need to purge all air out of the system, which includes the heater core.
