GC makes sense for 6 series
Gran Coupe makes sense for the 4er because there is a change in the market.
There are customers who overlook the traditional Coupe because it is impractical for their other requirements.

The 4er Gran Coupe will be the lowest Four door within the BMW portfolio and other traits over a regular 3er will be exclusivity , sportier styling and a far more dynamic car than a regular 3er.

Some may say its just a 3er but there are key significant differences within the new car to distinguish 3er from 4er.

The 4er Gran Coupe will be the first premium entry sized Four door Coupe in its segment.

The 2er Gran Coupe will be the entry model and is aimed at showing the recent arrivals of the A3 Sedan and Mercedes-Benz CLA how to do a small sporting sedan given recent German first drives have singled out both for lack of driving pleasure. All roads are not just straight.
Hi Scott

Can you give information at this stage regarding rear seats in 4 Series GC...

I think practicality is really a strong argument for people not getting the 2door coupe. Especially the limitation to 2 seats in the back.

Will the 4 Series GC offer space for 3 in the back (at least as an option ?) ?

I think this was one of the big issues with first models X6 which offered only 2 seats in the back... And that was addressed later...
