UPDATED!! Oil Leak(picture included) where's it coming from?

So i've been all over the forums looking at everyone's leaking engines thanks to innovative BMW engineering and it seems to me I have to replace the OFHG...
I was hoping it would be a cracked or de-threaded oil filter cap but I'm not completely sure if thats where the leak is coming from.
I'm tired of looking at this greasy engine bay so I'm ready to replace whatever is causing the issue. I've attached a picture in hopes that someone would be able to identify the culprit.
Also, if anyone has done this DIY I'd appreciate any tips...

That definitely looks like it's from the cap, I thought OFHG leaks happened lower than this.

I was hoping it was the cap and not the gasket... if I can get a couple more people to confirm i'm going to buy this today

looks like the cap, isn't their a rubber "o-ring" type part that is usually replaced during an oil change? maybe you just need a new ring.

think I'll go to autozone and get a fresh oil filter and use the new o ring from that before I go and buy $100 oil filter cap. Unless of course i see noticeable damage on the oil cap when I take it off to switch o ring then i'll have no other option.

How hard is it to get the oil filter cap off without that special tool? anyone...?

skip to 2:42 for the cap removal.. try giving it a turn by hand, and if it doesn't budge, you can pick up an oil filter wrench at autozone too. they sell a cheap oil filter wrench there, the metal ratchet attachment is going to be a couple bucks more.

Maybe clean up the oil and see if it comes back? Could be left over from the last oil change.

I've tried this a few times and the oil keeps pooling in that same area

It is also possible the cap was overtightened. BMW is very specific about the caps torque value.

Mine had the same oil leak constantly. I replaced my cap with an aluminum one from ECS and that fixed my issue, no leaks since last summer.

I used an after market oil filter and new O-ring and mine leaked a little around the cap like that. Replaced with OEM and no more leaks.

It's likely the cap and/or cap O-rings. It's very likely over torqued and/or possible as a crack in the cap body. Buy a new BMW OEM cap and OEM oil filter kit. Replace the cap, install a new oil filter, install the two new O-rings provided in the kit, and torque the cap to the proper torque, nothing more.

Probably leaking from the oil cooler. That's the metal part in front of the cap with the two large hex head screws in it.

Haha it did look interesting! I did really like the additional 17mm hex on the top that made getting the cap off so much easier just using a ratchet so that's a plus!

Update!

So I finally got around to installing the oil cooler gasket as well as the ecs oil cap in hopes to fix my leaking engine. Install was pretty straight forward. It's a shame shops charge so much to do something so simple. The old gasket didn't seem brittle or damaged at all, which leads me to believe it might have been the oil cap. Took me longer to clean up all the oil than it did to actually take the housing apart.

After install i started up the car and everything looked good until I saw the car was leaking coolant. Turns out as I was tightening the 10mm bolt for the oil lines, i accidentally leaned on the upper radiator hose and snapped it. FML... Going to check BMW tomorrow to see if I can just pick it up, if not ill be ordering from here.
