Now that the F30 3 series sedan has been released, testing continues on all the other F3x variants - the F32 coupe, F31 touring, and this F34 Gran Turismo (GT) model.

These photos provide the best look yet at the trunk, tailgate, and rear portions of the roofline. The 3 Series GT prototypes previously wore heavy camouflage paneling concealing the true shape and styling of the trunk. The loss of the rear deck camo has shortened and tightened the car's size and proportions.

With its sleeker trunkline and frameless windows, the 3-series GT looks to be sleeker in shape than the 5-series GT and appears generally sportier in nature. The 3-series GT will offer a simple hatch function rather than the twin trunk arrangement on the 5er GT. Though we're not sure it will look any less clumsy than the 5 series GT.

The apperance of the 3 series GT will follow the 5 series GT in having some independent styling from the other 3 series variants. Besides the obvious differing elements (size, proportions, roofline, rear styling, etc.), we can see for the first time in these photos that the kidney grilles appear to be larger than the F30 3 series sedan - in the same way that the 5 series GT grilles are larger than the F10 5 series sedan.

Expect the 3 Series Gran Turismo to debut sometime in 2013 and in both gasoline and diesel models.

At this point in time, i really do not see the point of a 3 series GT...

I can see for the 6 series and 5 series GT... but the 3 series GT ???

either you take the sedan or the touring but why settle for a GT?
am really scratching my head here...

EDIT: Having said that, i am sure it will be beautiful and so i am wishing BMW much success with this model!
I just wished that BMW start making something of a True/Real Smaller Sport Sedan "à la" E30 3 series!
That will meet a much greater success! with a top price of $40K fully loaded! I would be first in Line!

Great photos.

I am really trying to like it, but it still seems a bit awkward to me. Maybe my brain will have to get used to it, without the camo, when it goes on sale.

Ugly Duckling Ver 2.0

The ugly duckling is back - in a smaller version. Just like the 5 GT, the 3GT will be a flop. It just looks weird - when I see anyone driving a 5GT, I take a long hard look at the driver and think - what an idiot. Bad to be judgemental, but just can't help it. This is bordering on the Aztek fiasco.

It's just marketing. The BMW range is crazy now. 3,5 and 7 have grown and this created the 1 series. We also have X1, X3, X4, X5 and X6. Now we have 3GT, 5GT. Where does it end lol.

Oh yeah and that 3GT looks ugly. I'm not a fan of the A5 sportback but this looks worse.

Are you implying that they're not awkward now? I'd buy an F31 for myself and everyone on my block before I bought one 3GT.

Waste of time, the wagons look much better and provides far better utility. BMW should stop wasting their time with randumb products and get the 4-series, Z2, and Z4M out NOW!!

Ugh, I still don't understand this market segment. The 5GT was a travesty of design, and this 3GT seems to be traveling down the same path. Why?

Now the 4GC, on the other hand, can't come out soon enough.

looks terrible... the touring looks way better and will be more utilitarian. BMW is trying to answer a question that nobody asked.

Maybe these GT series are not promoted enough; maybe the market didn t understand for what they are designed; BMW must build sport cars/ saloons in the first line not this kind of cruisers
