3 Series GT Reveals Retractable Spoiler, First on a BMW
BIMMERPOST NEWS 3 Series GT Reveals Retractable Spoiler, First on a BMW Perhaps the 3 Series GT (F34) has sportier intentions than most would expect. If the retractable spoiler spotted on this F34 prototype for the first time is any indication, BMW expects the 3 Series GT to be driven with plenty of gusto and not relegated to just people and cargo hauling duties. As seen clearly in the photos below, the spoiler is retractable and not fixed. When the spoiler is deployed, we can see the trunk cutout for it to slot into when retracted. Like other cars with retractable spoilers (i.e. Mini coupe/roadster, Porsches), expect the GT's spoiler to deploy at higher speeds to increase downforce. Besides its functional purpose, the spoiler certainly also adds some sportiness to the aesthetics of the GT's rear. Since this will be the first retractable spoiler on a BMW, we wouldn't be surprised to see it implemented on future models. Expect the 3 Series Gran Turismo to debut sometime in 2013 and in both gasoline and diesel models. Follow all our spy photos @ http://www.bimmerpost.com/spyshots/ |

I think either you love or hate sportbacks. I'm just not a fan. I've seen a few A7s around and while I like the front the rear end just lets it down. It's a shame because inside and out it has really nice features. In fact the back end is quite nice but it sits so low. Looks like a dog doing a dump.

Very cool, love to see it on a BMW. Just wish it didn't have to be this BMW. Still, looks brilliant and does add a touch of sportiness that the GT will probably need. Very nice touch, BMW.

Ugh!! I thought BMW had learned their lesson from the low sales number from the 5GT. Why not just stick with the touring models??

I don't know, I just feel like it doesn't fit on cars like the 3er or the RS5. I'm sure it has it's function but it feels like a gimmick. I could see it on a MINI (as a prop) or Porsche because of the nature of the car itself but not on a 3er regardless if it's a GT or not - just doesn't fit what BMW does.

I thought they'd learn from the 5 series gt not to make them. BMWs just aren't supposed to be sport backs.
