Car Shudders Under Breaking 40-70mph

I would like to preface this post by saying i have tried to look for other posts regarding this issue unsuccessfully.

Also, all 4 rotors, pads, and sensors, have been replaced 3000 miles ago on my BMW 435i XDrive 2014. The car and my brakes have not been on a racetrack or seen speeds above 80mph. No heavy braking that can cause any sort of heat cycles.

My brakes shudder more or less depending on the speed, more speed more shaking. less speed less shaking, under 40mph i dont even notice it at all but towards 60 the car vibrates. I have been chasing this issue for a while and I am very confused as to what this issue could be. Brake lines? something with my calipers?

Thanks for your time guys. Much appreciated.

eta i bet you had hot brakes, held the pads against the rotors and now have pad build up on the rotors in one section.

How many miles on the car?
Did you experience the shudder before brake work was done?

Try clearing the discs of any pad deposits. A couple runs down the highway worked for me. Had the same issue as you after brake job. Get up to 70 to 80 mph and brake in a moderate manner as to not engage abs slow down to 30 or 20 mph and speed back up. Give the rotors time to cool between passes. I am not a professional but this method worked for me.

Actually i tried this as well! for some reason it seemed to worsen when i added heat. but that could have been my mind playing ticks on me and just me being paranoid. But it did not work, nonetheless, thank you though.

I have 51.5K miles although this is a fairly new issue. I had everything replaced (rotors pads sensors) less than 3k miles ago but i have been chasing the issue since i hit th 43k mile mark.

Although i know for a fact i have been extremely careful and delicate since they have been replaced 3K miles ago so this seems to be something other than a hardware issue (rotors, pads, or sensors).

Hmmm ok. Did you fully commit to the process because it takes a few passes to break up the stuck material. Another suggestion could be to take the brakes apart and sand the surface of the pads and rotors a bit to physically take anything off. That's last resort though. Another thing I would check is if you used locktite and tq the bolts down at the right tightness. Any loose parts can cause a slight vibration that feels 10 fold at high speeds.

Then it's possible the suspension is the culprit- worn front tension strut (thrust arm) bushings.

Would seem advisable check runout on the disks and inspect the pads, and it could be case of uneven pad material deposited on rotor surface-

if the pads/rotors check OK then examining the thrust arm rubber fluid filled bushings seems logical next step.

Good luck/Bill

Completely agree, that is the next logical step, I figured i would head in this direction anyway. good thing i have 2 year warranty on my rotors and pads from the dealer haha. Thanks for your time.

Honestly I think my next step is to check suspension components and caliper mounts/bolts because i actually tried the "process" multiple times on multiple days haha i got suuuuper frustrated. thanks for your time man.

Good luck...50K miles is awfully early for suspension bushings to wear enough to cause the shudder, but not beyond the realm of being possible.

Improper bedding of the brakes can give you uneven material deposits on rotor surface- double check those brakes-

When you say shudder. Is this only when you are braking?
If it is warped rotors you will feel feedback in the pedal. It shouldn't shake the car.
I swapped my rotors and pads and they started to warped fairly soon. But they stopped after a while of normal use.

The actual car vibrates, yes, which led me to change my rear rotors, whihc did not solve the issue still.

If you brake harder is it fine? Two things with the brakes can cause this:
1) Need to bed the brakes (it will show up with light braking as shudders).
2) They got grease/oil on the pad when it was installed. Backwards to belief, the pads grab the rotor causing shutters as well.

Bed the brakes in...

Unless you've been tracking your car you'll never get them hot enough to warp the steel discs, most likely you've got paid deposits on the disc itself

Also, check suspension components and those all important black rubber circles that stick you to the tarmac

hahaha will do, car is on brand new tires (less than 100 miles on them) so i know they are good, will have to check suspension. Thanks!
