PS1 and Turbosmart Dual Port Installed

Just took the car on a 600mi road trip and got to test out the new turbo. I also had a turbo smart dual port installed alongside it. The Pure Stage 1 is definitely noticeable and the best way I can describe it is that the car is more confident and doesn't feel like its running out of breath from very early in the rpm range all the way to about 6000 -- where you will notice the difference over the stock turbo (1900-5500). In comfort mode and sport mode you feel the extra power on tap. I would say the difference is about as much as you feel from adding a stage 2 flash tune over stock. The car is more eager to go and every MPH increment you are used to, add 10 to that and that is what the car actually does now...and it still feels like it has more to pull in the higher rpms. The car climbs hills with ease as well as makes the acceleration of the car feel overall quicker. The turbo smart isn't obnoxiously loud but you can hear more of the whoosh than that of stock or the non dual port variant. If you really want to hear it, it is easily noticeable in sport mode if you let the computer do the shifting for you. Basically be at a cruising speed in 3rd or 4th, then press accelerator and just before the car fully starts to build boost let off.

I also DIY'd the airlift controller retrofit into my dash to get rid of the loose wires running near the driver seat. It also eliminates the cheap cellphone vent mount I was using before. Took about 2 days to complete but I would say it turned out pretty well. This isn't a direct fit so it does require modification (cutting) of the vent and dash trim to fit. It is a very snug fit that stays firmly in place by the tight clearances made and the wire runs behind the center console area for stealthiness.

New Year, New Changes

Just in time for the new year I decided to retire my previous wheel setup (19s) with a new set (20s) and live out my stance/fitment dreams.

Here is a close up of the front and rear wheels

Here is the car on the alignment rack

It's been raining most of the last two weeks so I haven't had the time to wash the car but here is a picture of the wheels in the sunlight as well as how the fitment looks from the rear.

For anyone interested in specs for the new set...these are 20x8.5F +20 and 20x10R +20. The front is running a Future Classic 10mm spacer effectively making it a +10 offset. The tire set up is 225/35F and 235/35R.

Had the fenders worked out in the rear so I don't have to worry about rubbing and the tires can properly tuck once aired out.

Appreciate it! I’m glad I made the switch, I was worried about the ride feel on 20s but it’s not that much difference compared to my previous set of 19s.

Yes these wheels borrowed the design of the LMs and are one piece with a decent size flat lip (1.5” and 3” in the rear). I have the full specs posted on the 1st post as well as a couple posts ago. They’re 20” Beyern Mesh wheels, a subdivision of TSW that makes hub specific BMW wheels and offsets. A few forum members have ran them and they have all had positive results so I wanted to try out a new look.

Finally on BM3 Stage 2 and Tune Review Comparison

Recently made the jump to BM3 Stage 2. It's definitely a bigger and more rewarding upgrade having the Pure Stage 1 installed. The car is louder, has more pull from even lower rpms, you can hear the BOV and intake more... the car feels like it's a living breathing machine now. From cold starts to pulls in turbo weather, the car just goes. I can only imagine what this would be like with supporting fueling mods like meth or running an ethanol blend.

Okay... but besides the bedazzling feeling Stage 2 will give even with a stock turbo, there isn't that much more of a power bump from running the Dinan piggyback tuner. Butt dyno feels like its smoother power delivery when you catch the throttle of guard (i.e. high gear pull will downshift faster) and maybe a gain of like 20-30hp and another 30-40tq. The ZF now has a stronger clamping force with the transmission tune (makes the shifts a little harsher but in a sporty way) making sport mode seem like it pulls more aggressively than before. Overall if you get BM3 at a deal its definitely worth it. If you are the type to want to play things safe (turbo longevity) with a close to Stage 1 tune on stock turbo, the price of a piggy back used is definitely worth it and gives you enough of a taste to decide if you want more power. I think if I would have stayed on stock turbo I would not see as much of a gain as I did now having an upgraded turbo. The best way I can describe it as the car has more capacity to make power - with the stock turbo, the car feels like it is getting close to running out of air up top and could make more oomph down low. The PS1 turbo easily makes the same power as a stock turbo with less throttle input and has more room up top. For a daily street car, this is enough power for me to still have fun on the streets and back roads without having to feel like it is too much car for the road (especially living in a city).

Summer Setup

Once again, new year and just in time for Summer... the 20s are going in storage for a bit while I try another 19" wheel setup. The 20s have been nothing but great and really filled in the wheel wells. With this new set of 19s, they are more of a classic vibe but also sporty finished in grey. They also help put more power down to the ground.

Specs - 19x8.5 +20 225/40/19 and 19x9.5 +32 255/35/19, 10mil/12mil spacers F/R

Awesome build! That color is certainly unique. Have you thought about switching to an M Sport steering wheel? Maybe an aftermarket one if so? That would be the icing on the cake imo.

Appreciate it! Yeah, I'm not a fan of the M Sport wheels... they're too thick for my liking, but besides that, I like the design. Coming from the E92 Chassis I felt the stock wheel was the right amount of thickness and looks fine to me.

Some more changes

Recently had some downtime between projects and decided to add a little bit of eyeshadow to the headlights. The LED driver for my brows decided to fail so I decided to just try out the ring only. The side marker/indicator lights are back to the factory position but just LEDs.

As a Christmas present to myself, I decided to pull the trigger on a full audio upgrade. I decided to go with the Focal Inside Premium 9.2 setup for the speakers, but run Rockford Fosgate T3 Subs instead of the focal option. Also wanted to upgrade the Amp as well to the MatchUP 7 DSP. You'll need a Windows computer to tune the amp, but the software isn't too hard to learn.

Full Speaker Setup

Install

Rear Tweeter Bracket Mounting After Cutting a Hole

Final Mount Speakers Rear Seats

Amp Mounting

Front Woofer and Boom Mat Install

Front Tweeter Swap and Wiring

Under Seat Subwoofer and Boom Mat Install

Loading up a tune and testing the software... and no the output gain isn't really set that high, that was just testing what sliders were modifiable.

After 20hrs of break-in and playing with the DSP tune file, I finally achieved the sound I was looking for. It's a much-needed improvement over the Stock Hi-fi speakers... and dare I even say it might sound better/clearer/punchier than the HK system. I would definitely recommend the upgrade, you won't regret it.

Make sure you hang on to your hifi speakers, those hifi 4” mids are actually better than the vast majority of aftermarket’s. Amd I like the tweeters better on the hifi.

Tip: the HK center grill is different, the metal mesh and more acoustically transparent than the plastic hifi grill and makes a difference all on its own.

If you want to try playing with time alignment, checkout my last tune I posted when I had my f31. I think you will be very pleasantly surprised. At the very least you can load it, write down the T/A values, and apply them to your own eq/over tune. Should save you a few hours tuning on that part alone.
I also recommend playing the same track on mono and stereo to help dial in t/a and the minor eq and gain differences between left and right.

For anyone who reads this in the future you don’t need to swap ota coax on the center, if you really want the tweeter, they are on sale all over eBay for $20. Amd jsut plug right into the factory mid.
I added the HK tweeter to center, and wound up tuning it back out with a low pass xover because it will F your imaging.

If you are stock amp, just put the HK grill on and no tweeter.

I appreciate the response. I didn't plan to do anything with the stock speakers, the main goal of this was to do a full amp/speaker/sub upgrade at the same time and match a similar sound I have in my other project car. Also since I was going to upgrade one thing and already had the interior apart, I wanted to go all the way. The center speaker came for free since I bought them from another forum member and I don't have it currently plugged in as most don't run the center speaker. I swapped it just for fun (focals site has their different layouts - center coax/no rear tweeters) and also cause the center speaker had sun fade on the cone which you could see from the windshield - that bothered me. I wasn't recommending others to do their installation the same way as me, just said that the benefits from the sub/amp/rear tweeter upgrade and using the speakers at their fullest potential were worth it to me.

It may have been misunderstood but the 20 hours was for the speaker break-in time and the messing with the software was another few hours. I am running a tune from the forum thread for MATCHUP7 files. What I also noticed is how some files were set up for F31 and F30 but not much for F32. The speaker placement for the front seats in the coupes puts you closer to the rear set, so the file I ended up using still needed tweaking to finalize it. I figured that these pics would at least help others see that you do not need to use the MATCHUP7BMW specific amp - as long as you get the correct harness; you can also make your own bracket. I also did not want to bother swapping the grilles since mine is fine in terms of aesthetics and in the end, I'm not even using that speaker.

No worries, I might have miinterpreted, as I had well over 20 hours in tuning time on my f31 final tune, just trying to pay forward some of what I learned from tuning it and trying various changes.

I was so impressed with the f30 factory hifi speakers I bought a set for my Logic 7 e91 and did the f30 hifi center to replace the logic 7 center, (much much better performance on stock L7 amp) and will later be using the hifi f30 front tweeters on it as well.
been told by someone who tried recently that the flanges are different f30/e90 though so the door mids won’t correctly fit the e90 door cards.
